Travel, hotel, survey, lift / hold & re-launch + riggers / sail-makers report = £1000+ down / lost / wasted ... :(

So I'm now looking for help / advice as to recommendations for a 'Surveyor' whose area (radius from home) would include Fleetwood.

TIA :) :encouragement:

This whole process is becoming a right PITA

Not sure what you want to know? If the boat you are looking at is carp and you commission a survey then a good surveyor will tell you it is carp and you are still out of pocket.
So maybe you have a poor outcome on the survey you have commisioned then one suggestion: in the For Sale section of the forum name the boat, type, location and the price (under £400) for "selling" the survey report to anyone interested ; use the right tags and will appear high in google rank searches.

Nothing I see in the rools prevents you from doing this :-)

I used Steve below, he was very responsive and did the survey the following week in Fleetwood. Struck me as a very professional and straight forward guy, no complaints.

I'm definitely out of pocket from first Boat & survey etc ..... but the current owner of the boat in Fleetwood is positive that she will survey without any major or costly issues.

If he covers and knows Fleetwood Marina etc then he might just be to person for me .... thanks!

How knowledgeable about boats are you

Not 2-bad .... and from two visits including lengthy conversations with her current owner ..... plus all that has been replaced in the last three years ... I think (hope) she'll get a 'tick-in-the-box' ..... :)

an aside.

before buying our current boat last year we thought we had found the ideal example - agreed terms and arranged survey and surveyor found problems such that his advice to us was that unless for some reason that boat had to be the one - best to walk away as the defects were likely to significantly impact on the future saleability (and value) of that particular boat - we withdrew .

reason I mention that is your comment about " £1000+ down / lost / wasted ..."- our view now (although admittedly not necessarily at the time) is that we are very glad of the surveyors advice and diligence and see the cost of that survey as being worth every penny rather than lost or wasted - whilst the boat being sound and given a clean bill of health by the surveyor would have been our much preferred outcome - the surveyor finding and highlighting the problems we (and we believe the vendors) were unware of was a much better outcome than those problems being missed.

good luck with your searches - worth it in the end!

This does depend on what one sees is a major defect and what price you're buying the boat at.
Example, I rather buy a boat with a knackered engine, reducing 10k off the price, than buying one with a good second hand engine and getting nothing knocked off the asking price.
Same again with most other things,
What's important is buying the boat for the right price, unless off-cause it's too far gone.
