I agree with the other replies, go for it. So long as you are reasonably educated and plan what materials you need in advance it works great.
We spent 2 years with the kids, then years 3-5 at primary. They fitted back in easily enough and are top of their years now at secondary.

Despite the witty cynicism (where would we be without it! ) there are some of us families out there doing this. We were away with primary age kids in 2003-4 and met several other families along the way. Kids now back in secondary school and sailing confined to long summer holidays - managed 3...
3rd edition Thompson Adriatic Pilot published by Laurie Norie & Wilson.
Never used black and white copy of the now out of date 3rd edition of this Pilot. Planned to use it back in 2004 but we skipped that bit of the Med!
Open to offers - must cover postage at least! It's quite heavy.

Hi,
We have 46' yacht based in Lefkas in the Ionion and have sailed to Athens before, children now aged 10/12.
In the Gulf of Corinth, Delphi is well worth seeing via a stop at Itea. We also like Trizonia as a stop over point for a day or two - isolation with some nice walks and laid back...
Try this for the Athens bus timetables:
Athens buses
I've done it to Lefkas and that works fine. Need a local airport bus to bus terminal from the airport though. Not sure about the extra bit to Corfu, suggest you browse the timetables for more direct route not via lefkas.

Can anyone shed any light on this one. During the summer in the Ionion Islands area of Greece we were in one port where going alongside rather than backing on was the norm.
Several Italian boats came in and out over the 3 days we were in port and they all reversed in alongside rather than our...
We stayed in Puerto Sherry for a week couple of years ago when picking up our boat on start of Med trip. Wouldn't recommend it. Long way from anywhere, you'd be stuck without a hire car and expensive bars/restaurant on site.
Our kids are now 9 and 10 and we've moved on from them keeping them quiet stage to them being useful. They tie a mean bowline, row ashore with lines to tie on so when I back in to anchorages thet require tieing back the line is already there. They can also hop off and tie up with more...
Re: Gaios on Paxos.....
We've sailed in Ionion and Aegean areas of Greece and only a few places bother asking you to produce documents - it's the time-wasting pain of watching someone spend 1/2 an hour to complete forms in triplicate with carbon paper and then charge you 3-4 Euros - you almost...
I've been based in Levkas for last 12m and support the comments above. We like Lefkas as a town but paying the marina prices against the "risks" of leaving boats unattended elsewhere is a personal thing.
One thing I'd add is that many people use the bus to Athens from Levkas, approx 25 euros...
Hi,
We sailed from Tropea through Messina Straits and over direct to Paxos last year at end of April with our 2 kids aged 7/9. Others went through and hopped along coast and made shorter hop from the heel to Corfu.
I guess it depends on various factors like the expected weather, boat and crew...
Hi
We just spent 2 years away with chldren aged 6-9 over the period. Formal education servies don't come cheap but there are plenty of free resources you can download before you go, at the younger age at least where my expereince was. If you go to the Government dept furher education site you...
Regarding Greece, we spent Apr-Sept there last year Ionion and Aegean. Only in touristy harbours with Port Police did we get charged anything, outside of the one or two 'proper' marinas that exist. The port police charge is more of a nuisance paperwork 5-7 euros level than anything that breaks...
