    Save Weir Wood Sailing Club

I'd agree with all the points you raise. Our club insists on sending invoices out in the first week of January, slap bang when many are a little financially pressed, haven't been near the boat for 3 months and aren't planning on using it again until at least April. In recent years there's been...

What has happened to the boat market?

Interesting read on a Sunday morning of the different perspectives of the used boat market. If you just want a boat as the reply above you can find a bargain, if you’re after something specific I’d suggest it’s going to be harder. I know a lot of boats change hands over the winter ready for...

    Save Weir Wood Sailing Club

Like cyclists it only takes a few! Possibly some research is required into Lycra and Wetsuit materials to see if they affect the behaviour of normally reasonable people….

Own Boat Tuition Stour/Orwell - Very Grateful for Recommendations

I’m sure someone will be along soon to recommend the YBW pathway….starting your sailing career in an Optimist dinghy and working your way up. There’s no need for that of course, I’d have thought any of your local sailing schools would do a bit of own boat tuition. It’s only a few bits of...

    yacht ashore Seaford

That looks like a shockingly unforgiving place to have trouble. Thursday was a pleasant sunny day with light breeze, maybe a delivery trip with the new owner gone wrong as the weather turned overnight. There's a long list of sold boats that have left MYC and not made it past the Forts a couple...

How does a marina know how long you will be away?

There was a miserable old buzzard on our pontoon the last time I kept the boat in a marina, he proudly boasted he always told the marina he was back the same day as he didn’t want a visitor in his berth while he was gone. The marina asked as you exited a lock when you were back. If everyone...

    Lower Thames River Moorings

I’ve visited several times but not for a few years and there was a dedicated visitors mooring. It’s an interesting place to spend an evening, lots going on with Tilbury etc.

    how many fenders?

Some useful phrases of encouragement there Ylop, I’ll try to remember them! Although I did have an incident involving the only yellow rope (spin halyard) on the boat that needed releasing. I loaded it on a winch, opened the jammer ready and explained patiently and carefully I’d like it lowered...

New Q class to be built by Spirit Yachts, launching in 2026 to celebrate the centenary of the class.

I was going to ask how much but I think we all know the saying…if have to ask….!

    how many fenders?

Treat them mean, keep them keen on the RYA pathway!

    how many fenders?

Checking the crews knots and other rope work in front of them is bad form, best to wait till they've gone home to tie the boat up properly. I'm managing ok with my 5 remaining fenders so no harm done.
