Garmin InReach mini and mini 2

We all move with the times! Who would want to buy an older version of the In-Reach which appears to have been upgraded and improved. Having said that, my earlier InReach with the Earthmate App and connected to my iPad has provided everything which has facilitated my various ocean crossings.

    Pacific Windpilot

I have a Winpilot Pacific on my Westerly Storm. Have crossed oceans with it and it is the best and most reliable crew that you can hope for. Good design, good materials, easily fitted and maintained and well supported by the supplier.

    Solar charging!

The output at maximum sun is approx 75 to 80 w giving about 4 to 5 amps. It is making on average 450wh per day. I have sealed batteries and the battery type is set on the victron at factory default. the voltages are genuine - whether it is rubbish or not is the question and why. I am hoping...

    Solar charging!

Just to acknowledge my thanks for help and advice received. In order to finalise the issue: 1. The 180w panel is working well and connected to the Victron 75/15 controller 2. Until now ( 4 days since installation) the charger has never progressed beyond bulk mode. From memory the max voltage...

    Solar charging!

Embarrassed to say that I found a bad connection from the 180w panel? Everything now looks more normal. With only the 180w panel connected it is producing around 80 w and 5amps at midday. Battery is up to 13v with fridge running. However, I still wish to use my old 2 x 50w panels which I will...

    Solar charging!

Vic, I have moreorless done what you suggest before I solicited help. As indicated in my first post, both panels show an open circuit voltage of 19v approx. At time of highest sun the collective power output was approx 1.5amps. Seems a bit low for a battery bank still under bulk charging. I...

    Solar charging!

Just to further clarify: Domestic - 2 x 110ah Start - 80ah Today with only fridge working I generated 160wh of solar according to the Victron. I never saw more than 24 w on the controller. Battery at sundown after a sunny day was 12.6v with fridge on 13.1v fridge off. All seems very low to...

    Solar charging!

Sorry if my question seems a little dumb but I am comparing the amps readout to my previous setup which had 130w of panels with a PWM(?) charger. With the same load on the system I was seeing 5 and 6 amps of charging on the Marley HRD2 unit. At the moment I am in COCHIN Marina using minimal...

    Solar charging!

I have just upgradied my solar array to include a 180w and 50 w panel. They are connected in parellel and both show an open circuit voltage of around 19v. I have a Victron 75/15 for charging. The charger to battery is fused. The wire for panels to charger has a single pole switch. The open...

    Humble request

You mean the other side of the shunt from the domestic bank? I think the solution is an additional smaller fuse/breaker after the +ve busbar. The 100A fuse/breaker protects the large diameter wire to the +ve busbar and then to the windlass. I will look at installing a simple switch to isolate...

    Humble request

Thanks for lightening response times! Sorry: broken line leads to a -ve busbar which is incorrectly labelled. Until now the fuse has proven to be OK to accomodate the windlass. Are you suggesting that I reroute +ve wires so as to insert a higher dedicated fuse for the windlass. 150A? I...

    Humble request

I regularly read PBO posts and appreciate the wealth of information contained therein. I have seen many useful posts regarding electrical circuitry and charging systems which are sometimes blurred by the various and diverse opinions of the experts. Recently I laboured thro' a post relating to...

Re-Flagging UK Part 1 Registered Yacht based in Greece

I have also done my research into a Polish flag. It is a recognised vessel registration worldwide and, indeed, I have encountered Polish flagged yachts in various parts of the world. I recall that the last time I was in Croatia I saw many boats carrying a Polish flag. Applications are made...
