We were running down the Crouch one year during Burnham week when we came up behind two monohulls who were busy trying to blanket each others spinnaker in their own little duel.... They were around a boat length apart when we went between them at around 20 knots......I thought that courteous...
From that document....
"1. Leisure and Other Small Craft – Conservancy Charges/Moorings.
Annual charge in the form of a registration fee is payable by leisure and other small craft, with the exception of dinghies under 5.1 metres in length. "
In my view it's a little...
I stand to be corrected on this one but my understanding of the Medway conservancy charge is that it applies to vessels that are moored or kept on the Medway, and not necessarily to those being used on it.... In other words if you trailer your vessel there, launch and then recover afterwards...
Wouldn't it be simpler to just build a stainless steel sheet "box", open at the front and top, that the new cooker sits in and is gimballed to the sides? It would simply sit on the existing shelf. You could even add a half top to it sloping up away from the back that would act as a fire guard...
Oops, is that rule about having to link your quotes still around on here...? Just in case here it is!
America's Cup 2021: Luna Rossa's Jimmy Spithill questions umpire's call in Prada Cup loss to Ineos Team UK - NZ Herald
There's a great quote in the NZ press from Francesco Bruni, who was the co-helm on LR.
"I think you have to just digest that decision. I think it was very close; the front of the boat always feels a lot closer than it probably is. We'll review the video...it's (the referee's) decision in the...
I think that's an interpretation of the rules, rather than the actual rule. Rule 16.1 and 2 are:
CHANGING COURSE
When a right-of-way boat changes course, she shall give the other boat room to keep clear.
In addition, on a beat to...
I don't think Jimmy ever thought they were going to hit but he was doing everything he could to make it look as if they might in the hope that Ben would chicken out early, or he could make it look as if he had to take avoiding action (even if he didn't) in order to win a protest. The first is...
I'm not quite sure what all the squabbling around that last cross is all about. As soon as both boats gybed onto converging tacks it was obvious that it was going to be close and Ben immediately started doing everything he could to cross ahead, and LR started doing everything they could to...
It's always hard to get a true picture of events from a short report like that. The headline says "Rough seas" so would all like to think we would be taking extra special care in such circumstances, especially if going on deck whilst under way and single handed, but the sailor says he was...
Maybe I'm a bit sad but I do find all the missing bits from a report such as this more interesting than what is actually in the article.
It seems a water craft was in collision with another vessel causing it to sink and causing serious injury to one of it's occupants.
The police attended and...
No responsible port authority or any other organisation for that matter is going to change what they are doing on the word of a politician, even the Prime Minister, and they would be fools if they did. They will quite rightly wait for the legislation to be published and then take a position...
