What makes the hatch acrylic go crazed?

Often the crazing is caused by using alcohol-based cleaning products. Here's and answer that explains it: Why does alcohol crack acrylic (plexiglass)? And some more links to see the effects: Do not clean Plexi glass or Acrylic with alcohol How to NOT destroy your acrylic! DON'T Clean Acrylic...

    Thermal camera ?

WiFi is no answer, if the vendor software is just no longer updated and the thing is something non-standard. I have a WiFi endoscope and one day the app just stopped working after some android update. After trying many other apps that all claimed to work with endoscopes but didn't with mine, I...

    Thermal camera ?

They are nothing like regular visible light cameras or "infrared" cameras (like e.g. trail cameras). Google "microbolometer" to learn about the operating principle. I have an Infiray P2 Pro (from eleshop.eu) and find it quite good for casual interests like finding insulation problems in the...

    Battery charging voltages

^^^ OP does not say where the readings came from. Some cheap DVMs read high when the DVM battery is low.

The black art of bonding, anodes etc.

And if you do actually connect an anode to the seacock, you have now created a galvanic cell. And the anode erodes and folks say 'hey, it's working, so it must be protecting the other thing!' when in fact if you had not added the anode in the first place, there would be no galvanic cell and no...

Thermal vs Magnetic Circuit breakers (Float switch)

In a fault situation the electronic switch will protect the thermal breaker by being quicker to blow up.

    High Power LED torches

IME a good dedicated long range searchlight with focused narrow beam and no side spill is a bit of a unicorn, unfortunately. There was a thread a little while back, where I tried to explain why a generic torch or a torch made for different purpose is not the best for this task: Recommended torch...

How adaptable are cordless tool batteries?

Tool batteries have protection circuits in them, they won't feel bad about feeding a puny led. Many 12V car led bulbs have wide input voltage range, like 9- 30 volts and same bulb is meant for both 12 and 24V applications. Built-in stepdown converters.

    Recommended torch

It's not about the price, but intended use. Like tools. I admit at least 3 of the lights on my boat are more expensive than the OP torch, but for boat use at night, especially in fog or rain, they are all beaten by a 3x cheaper convex lens zoom. And they are not weak lights by any means. The...

    Recommended torch

I just wanted to point out that there's more to a torch than lumens and how you actually intend to use it plays (or should play) a big part in how you choose one. DL40 is a nice torch, but "It would make a good boat torch." is IMHO incorrect.

    Recommended torch

IMHO the torch in the OP is quite unsuitable for spotting far away things from a boat in the dark, be it navigational buoy or a MOB. Looking at the review video, that much flood will light up nearby objects (deck, sails, stanchion posts, etc) and kill the night vision., so you don't really see...
