Dont forget to check out the G7 parking restrictions that have come into force in Falmouth. Roads are expected to be extremely busy especially around National Maritime Museum Cornwall so please plan ahead to minimise disruptions. Both Grove Place and Maritime car parks will be closed between...

    Pinta

The Pinta is an analogue device built from discrete components and comprised 3 units, the control unit with the power switch , rate adjustment and mcbs etc., This fed the helm motor which as I recall is a compound wound motor, this connected to the heading compass with a mechanical bowdon...

    AIS at the chartplotter

Rounding the Lizard, motoring bound Falmouth, Midnight Aug 2015 against oncoming Fastnet race fleet. AIS targets on PC screen using open Open CPN . Its the ones without AIS that you still has to be on the look out for. Radar almost a wipe out in these close quarter situations so Mk1...

Changes to radio amateur licence and /MM

I too received the Ofcom letter and was puzzled as to the regional secondary locator, so with a little keyboard work I found the answer here; Ofcom confirms E error on website RS211953 | January 16, 2015 As many listeners will be aware, Ofcom is required to give all licensed radio amateurs...

Gloom, just when I thought I had nothing to do this winter, a deck leak appears

I use Arbomast BR its a butyl rubber bedding compound rather than an adhesive, available in Grey or teak, does does not set but rather it firms up. Trims can be removed without destruction, cleans up with white spirit.available from Marine superstore Port Solent, and its reasonable priced. Philip

    Sticky inflatable

I would have agreed with the previous advice until a friend in the marina tried Inflatable boat cleaner by Polymarine , the result was dramatic and removed the stickyness with ease. So impressed I bought a bottle too, and it does work, it cleaned up the plastimo dorade vents a treat . see link...

    Wooden boat survey

David Cox has that reputation, I have used his services in the past and no several others who hold him in high regard for the survey of Wooden boats, and indeed own one himself.

I want to fit a voltmeter in the cabin to keep an eye on the leisure battery state

Hi, There is no real reason why you cant connect it locally, provided that you pick up the pos and neg of the same circuit and can accept that there might be a slight inaccuracy when the circuit is loaded, this due to the volt drop in the wiring, but for indication purposes it should be fine. It...

Bowman heat exchanger filler neck replacement

I have replaced one also, as I recall the inside neck of the filler is a Hex and I had to make a very large Allan key from a short section of Hex bar with length of 25mm box section welded to the top, the bar was approx 18inch long and it was necessary, heat was also applied and was done in situ...

    LED cabin lights

I have recently had LED lamps from this company, they have all the bayonet types and they are rated 12-28v dc, This helps with charging voltages. Also they are not polarity sensitive. The 3watt and 2watt are particularly impressive. No conection just a satisfied customer...

It has recently been fitted with flip launch wheels which are really handy. The transom is fitted with pads on both faces for the outboard clamp. Its for collection only from Poynton...

Tingle copper thickness and nail size?

Tingles Certainly 2.5mm is far to thick and as a consequence to rigid to take up any compound curve. Thin copper sheet often used for roofing is listed in SWG "Standard wire gauge" where 20swg is approx 0.9mm and that is more like the gauge you would want. Even this in its hard state is fairly...

    Cracked Seams

My boat has splined seams and can understand your concern. Looking closely at the picture I would say that as the white lead paste + some grease filler which was left unpainted has absorbed some surface staining plus the Linseed oil in the paste has oxidised, a wipe over with some thinners...
