thanks for the replies. I looked at Orei and it’s also an option but unfortunately to get to Skiathos you need to go to Agios Konstantinos on main land then get another ferry to Skiathos.
I did find a yard called Captain’s club boatyard at Kala Nera in gulf of Volos. Did anyone hear about it...
I am looking for a place to leave the boat in June for a couple of months either in the water or in dry dock near Skiathos. We have a flight going out from Skiathos so anywhere in the area would be great. Even Volos as there are frequent ferries from there to Skiathos. Any suggestions?
That's interesting and useful, thanks! So, considering that:
1. The rig was originally a masthead (with runners already there) then at some stage they added an extra section at the top to make it into fractional.
2. The boat in question (as shown in the picture) has a fixed backstay; two runners...
I might just stick with my current boat. A Stephen Jones Hustler 33. Good old IOR boat that weighs 4t and runs like a train on rails downwind. Also fractional rigged but fixed stays and swept back. She’ll be flying in the trade winds.
It’s an interesting observation. I suppose they thought the boat was already capable racer and tried to get her to perform better and realised that she’s still an heavy boat. Maybe that’s why they sold her haha
So I spoke to the owner and it turns out the original rig was masthead then they added an extra 3m of mast (another owner), longer boom to make it into a racing boat. So I expect the rig is not that bendy and therefore strong enough even without running stays unless going all out in a blow.
The...
Thank you all for the very informative replies. I am talking to the owner soon to understand a bit more about this particular set up. He has singleshanded the boat from Sweden to Greece so it's not impossible. However if I need to slacken and re-tension the runners every time I tack then that's...
As
it’s a Swedish New Gambler 35 but the sailboat data site reports it as masthead rigged. It’s a fairly heavy boat though so it shouldn’t need crew hanging over the side given a reduced sail plan as things get lively.
Yes. On my Huster SJ I have a similar set up, 7/8 fractional swept back spreaders and fixed back stay and I never touch anything. The mast shows no pumping at all whatsoever in any conditions.
