Hi all
Here's the update.
It was the monitor after all.
With the battery at rest voltage I measured 0.3 mV across the shunt which clearly wasn't too accurate with a cheap multimeter on its 200mV setting. The monitor was showing 16 A going out at the time, whereas that should have given a...
when you
yes, when you setup the phone app it checks the monitor's software version. In my case it did a software update via the phone before the app would work.
Thanks for all the comments.
Just to be clear the monitor was working fine before I changed the batteries. It was a Nimbus factory install as was everything else on the boat electrics. This is a modern boat with largely industrial type wiring harnesses, factory made.
The new batteries last week...
I've already disconnected each wire, one at a time, from the 20 or so circuit breakers fed from the service battery bank. None of them made a difference to the 'rogue' current.
I had just realised this myself. So when next at the boat I will disconnect the Victron battery monitor and then do a new setup procedure on it so that it calibrates itself. The manual, which is quite difficult to understand, says nothing about doing this when changing batteries, only for a...
OK understand what you are saying, it could be a duff brand new battery.
Can only measure current via the monitor but that should be OK.
Sorry wrong wording about anode. It has a black wire on it which I assume is connected to the main negative point for all the batteries.

I haven't changed any of the battery wiring, just replaced with identical batteries.
Are you suggesting that if I disconnected the main, earthed anode it might be a good place to start?
It's the service batteries as originally explained.
The battery monitor is always on and only draws 1mA. The addition of the bluetooth dongle plugged into it is also very low.
The shunt for the monitor is wired in as standard on the negative side of the battery bank.
There are no duff batteries...
Thanks for ideas so far
Just to answer some of the questions:
- I have the voltage and ampage shown continously on my phone with a time graph as well. It's an excellent Victron facility
- I have done no wiring changes to the boat at all other than swap out the old batteries with identical new...
I have a Nimbus motorboat with a bank of 3 x 80Ah service batteries.
I replaced them last week and also also installed a Victron app on my phone which displays the battery condition, via bluetooth from the Victron battery monitor. This makes it easy to see the current and voltage when going...
I see the big chandlers in the Solent, Force 4 and MarineSuperStore, no longer seem to stock Velox. Certainly no longer shown on their websites
Does anyone know why?
Is it being withdrawn maybe?
I am looking at buying a Nimbus 335 as my first motor boat.
It has a single engine with a V-drive to a prop shaft supported by a P-bracket.
It has twin rudders and the propeller is the lowest point on the boat.
However there is nothing to protect the prop in the event of an accidental grounding...
