    OpenCPN Comm Problem

I just fund this old thread having searched for the same problem. I have found a solution that works for me although I'm not really sure why! I am sharing it just in case others search for the same problem... Download gpsgate splitter from here...

    Choice of Sail Cloth

Phew, glad that all got sorted out! The manufacturers have upped their game recently with the lower end markets improving the quality of their offerings, so now the choice is not hugely different between the manufacturers, and it is more down to the cut choice to suit the sailors needs...

    Sailmaker Vacancy

Ah! Didn't think about that, yes good idea. Thanks! How does one go about asking the admin to move the thread to a different place? Or do I just need to re-post in wanted?

Recycled (Circular Economy or Closed Loop) Sail Manufacturing

Helpful views, thanks. Yep, you're all loud and clear that you just want to buy your sails and expect them to last the same or longer. The recycled line of sails I am talking about should film this adequately. As everyone is saying here it's just a case of getting it off the ground in the...

Recycled (Circular Economy or Closed Loop) Sail Manufacturing

Maybe three years is not the correct time span, but the idea is a suggestion to be discussed. I originally suggested 3 years as this was a reasonable time span from the sailmakers point of view in terms of warranty coverage etc. A sail is warrantied for that period, after that time, they start...

Recycled (Circular Economy or Closed Loop) Sail Manufacturing

Thank you Dom for some modicum of reason here! This is just a joke, so nobody please post a reply in offence, but .. " Will somebody throw me a frikin line here!? "

Recycled (Circular Economy or Closed Loop) Sail Manufacturing

Ok, sorry for the blunt object thing, that was uncalled for! RE x-cut vs Radial Vs Carbon etc, there is no conspiracy here, there are different cuts for very good reasons. Radial cut sails spread the load even more efficiently than a X-cut due to the same principles as I mentioned earlier, the...

Recycled (Circular Economy or Closed Loop) Sail Manufacturing

There are 'warp orientated' and 'balanced' cloths that do that already, but they are used for different reasons, radial cuts and racing applications. In a cross cut sail, it is better and more efficient to engineer the weave so that you concentrate on where the load in the sail is actually...

Recycled (Circular Economy or Closed Loop) Sail Manufacturing

The response to recycled sails seems to be quite similar, that generally people don't want 'inferior' sails. I am going to attempt to technically describe why this wouldn't actually be the case, and in fact has potential benefits in cruising applications, 50% recycled sails, wouldn't need to be...

Recycled (Circular Economy or Closed Loop) Sail Manufacturing

Wow! Thanks for bringing this to my attention! I am so pleased that this is being done with laminate sails and glad such a massive company is allready actively looking at sail recyclability. Bravo One sails, glad I am no longer a tiny voice banging his head against A Seemingly impregnable...

Recycled (Circular Economy or Closed Loop) Sail Manufacturing

I have been thinking about this again overnight. Instead of a deposit, how about rental? If the sail is worth normally £1500, how about a nominal life expectancy was put on it of say 3 years for example. The customer would pay a monthly rental fee of 1500/(3x12)=£41.67 per month instead of...

Recycled (Circular Economy or Closed Loop) Sail Manufacturing

O No, I was very taken aback by the general response as well! Anyway, glad you think asking the opinion of the users of sails was a worthwhile forum use, that is exactly why I put it out there to see what bounced back. I feel quite bruised. :)
