Had a closer look at the floor today, there's already brass inserts under the screws so still open to other suggestions. It's a lot of work redoing the floor so I want this to happen again a few years down the line.
The black around the screw is moisture and lightens off as the wood dries although it's still stained. I like the idea of the inserts as these could be epoxied in place leaving nowhere for the moisture to get in. I was going to replace all the screws with stainless but the inserts only seem to...
Any ideas to prevent water getting under the varnish around the floor screws? I had thought about epoxying around the hole before revarnishing or maybe some sort of insert.
How about buying one of these radar arches and lengthening the legs? Probably have to alter the angle too.
BOAT,MAST, RADAR ARCH 80CM NEW 316 MARINE GRADE STAINLESS STEEL CHANDLERY ARCH | eBay
When I started building it asked for information on the forum, there is a lot of good stuff on here. The TIG welding was the difficult bit as I hadn't had much practice. I should have just tacked the frame and taken it to a pro.
Bending Stainless Tube
I made this using 25mm 316 tube, its attached to the pushpit with standard bimini connectors from Baseline Marine. the front legs are bolted into rivinuts inserted into the pushpit uprights. It would take my weight but not sure about an overhanging mast sitting on it
As Seadog30 says check the clearance between the bolt head and gearbox flange. If this gap is too small as you put more power on it closes up and touches. To check put a thin piece of tape between the two and check it after running, if its worn through you've found the problem. I think the R&D...
First thing tomorrow I will check the DVM against another one, if it's correct I'll email the charger suppliers and then take it from there. It looks like its pretty pointless having a larger capacity charger when the batteries won't accept it, just more weight to carry about.
My boat is on a swinging mooring and a 40w solar panel keeps everything topped up. The charger is only for very occasional use if I'm away cruising and the house batteries get a bit low 2X90ah. I just need to know if these voltages will damage the battery, if so I will send the charger back as...
