Repairing an old Proust Cat steering

There’s a fairly active Prout owners group on face ache that you may glean much information from. I’ve just sold my quest 33cs and am currently sitting on it in Newlyn part way through delivering it to the new owner if you want some pictures I can try and get what you’re after and post them here

    Cruising the Canaries??

Not entirely so. I went from Madeira to La Palma, then La Gomera to Tenerife (they didn’t seem to welcome visiting yachts) to Gran Canary to Fuertaventura and headed north up the east coast and then across to Lanzarote where we also sailed up the east coast and eventually to la Graciosa before...

Flares - are there any stats on actual emergency use?

Lots of differing circumstances already. we had call to use flares in anger that were not seen by passing vessels that we could see, we were over seven hundred miles offshore, a shout on vhf with no aerial was our saviour although we didn’t know it would work. The epirb had been activated some...

God this weather is SO depressing - cruise ideas anyone?

Yes Wednesday looks fresh but there’s no scary change of direction so it’s easier to shelter from, the problems come when there is a sudden shift in wind direction during gale conditions. That said it’s not holiday weather, good for walking but not beach weather depends what you want to do

    Lobster Pots

You mention strong cross tides, it could be that the gear has been dragged or rolled across the seabed rather than having been placed there but that’s just a possibility, either way I would have thought the harbour authority would just remove that one

    Lobster Pots

In recent years the use of pink or orange buoys has become the favoured method for marking gear, mainly as they are less cumbersome to work on a cramped deck than a lengthy dan with flag. But they cost and there will always be those that are determined not to part with money on proper gear...

    Lobster Pots

I do hope everyone enjoys their crab sandwiches and lobster dinners when off on their summer cruise and not give a single thought to how it came to the plate

    Lobster Pots

Fishing with pots and nets has been going on for hundreds of years before recreational sailing was even a thing. Not so many decades ago pots/nets would be marked with cork floats or glass balls. Most sailing vessels then were long keeled. Since there has been a massive surge in leisure pursuits...

Wow, you’re very quick to label anyone that has a view that doesn’t comply with your own

    Lobster Pots

Probably one of the local boats store pot, where they will save each catch until they have enough to make a decent landing to market

    Lobster Pots

Jeeeez, here we go again . . . . . . . There are many users of the sea, sailing for most is a recreational pursuit, although there are some working professionally. There have always been fishing pots or nets worked in areas that produce the results, sometimes they don’t have to go far for...

God this weather is SO depressing - cruise ideas anyone?

The forecast for Monday looks fairly favourable to get from Plymouth to Scilly, if I was up channel and wanting to get back that’s the one I’d be watching. So much angst about getting west it is doable and there have been plenty of opportunities, I myself just got back again on Wednesday with...

God this weather is SO depressing - cruise ideas anyone?

Make the most of the good sailing opportunities with fairish weather and sit out the bad bits in places you want to visit. TBH it doesn’t look so bad that you can’t crack on with the cruise, not much different to an average summer. Ireland on the other hand is always a move in good and dodge and...
