    condensation and insulation

I have also used cork floortiles to line the hull in spaces you cannot usually see, under buks, cupboards etc, coat of varnish and they are excellent. My boat has, for it's head lining, a nice light brown shag pile, don't knock it, we sail all winter, never get a drip, and if you go 180 you get...

    Crutch straps

Re: Crutch/Crotch straps I always thought you put your armpit in a crutch and at the other end of your body was a crotch. Whatever, you need a decent harness to lift any one's body out of the water and most life jacket crotch straps are only to stop the thing going over your head. Spend the...

Qualified Or Not, What Would You Do?

Re: RE that was then! AGAIN Firstspirit, That's a Big Ten Four Buddy! still got it, but cell phones have taken all the fun out of it. Where is this marina? South coast? Solent area? At the end of a line of 5 perches, starboard side to? We had a similar thing occur when the lock gates were...

    Perkins Or Cummins?

Burgundyben, I have supplied both companies with valve lifters and camshafts for more than 30 years. They both have good product BUT Cummins, in my opinion, has the edge. Good solid design, 'clean' exterior of engines and, if a factory fit, excellent marinisation. Go for it!

Re: What\'s your tipple? Oldgit, I think we have to meet. I feel, not literally of course, a kindred 'spirit' by the tenor of your response. Anything that does not send you blind, deaf or stupid is a good tipple! For prefence I drink anything you don't have to strain, going in that is, not...

Qualified Or Not, What Would You Do?

RE that was then! Firstspirit, Avast there! and other nautical expressions; your handle, is that a reference to grog??? What would I do now that I'm older but no wiser? 1. Don't trust the idiot who made the tidal heght calculation in the first place. 2. Do my own calculations before I...

Qualified Or Not, What Would You Do?

I was on that boat! Colvic 42, Peel Island June 2000. Skipper swore there was enough water beneath us. We fell over at 04.00 hours. What did we do? Settled into lee berths and waited for the tide. NOBODY would have been seen DEAD on deck!

    fully furled?
