    Jersy to the Solent

What boat? What speed? Fill up in guernsey as no fuel in Alderney. Go for north direction tide in Alderney races or if I doubt slack. Aim for needles fairway bouy to avoid needle races. Once at mid Solent just before precautionary area watch out for lobster pots if cutting corner to calshot spit...

Welcome to the boating world. Don’t know what boat you have but from zero to day skipper is quite a leap. I teach Powerboat 2 aimed at beginners in a Rib (or other small power boat ) It is a 2 day course and cover a lot of stuff but at a very early level and will give a very good grounding

Suzuki DF 2.5 won't keep running

Problem I found was the fixed jet in the casting adjacent to the closed throttle butterfly. Difficult to clean due to the blind bend

    First boat, advice please!

The two best days of owning your boat are the day you buy it and the day you sell it. The rest in between, shrug your shoulders, get a bigger wallet and enjoy it. Use it for what you want, be that clocking up the miles or going down at the weekend read the paper and drink beer

And there was me flushing heads 3 miles off

Beachbuoy CSO, combined sewer overflows. Pic of the Solent today. This is permitted during times of flood and can include untreated sewage. And there was me ensuring holding tanks and head flushing is done 3 miles off

can I use hydraulic fluid (ISO32) instead of ATF on Bennett trim tabs?

And rams as these have swollen and seized

can I use hydraulic fluid (ISO32) instead of ATF on Bennett trim tabs?

Could also be that ATF is a water based hydraulic liquid whereas standard hydraulic oil is oil based. The plastic used could be oil hygroscopic
