    New Mattress East Coast?

Could anybody recommend an East Coast mattress maker that can make me a new decent matress that is not all plasticy and is comfortable too? I've had enough of sleeping on PVC covered foam.

    WalkerBay 8 dinghy

Walker Bay 8 Well I decided to get one. I got a good deal and one thing I like is that it will be left out all year in the dinghy park so and it is indistructable. Next year I will invest in the tube (on my anual trip to the states) but for the moment I will be in possession of a tippy tender...

    WalkerBay 8 dinghy

Rowing Stability Well I too was wondering about the definition of "tippy", as I think few modern sailors have rigid dinghies or row. I have had a fair few rigid dinghies in my time too, and they have ALL been tippier than a flubber. BUT, flubbers don't row at all (and that is what I want the W8...

    WalkerBay 8 dinghy

Walker Bay 8 So basically the story I am getting is that they are tippy (I have heard this before) unless they have the tubes on (which almost cost the price of the boat itself!) - I dont think I can afford boat and tubes, but maybe it is possible to upgrade to the tubes later on - or are these...

    WalkerBay 8 dinghy

I am sorry if this has been posted before, but I did search, honest, and came up with stuff on ramblers on coastal paths or bays with seahorses in them! I don’t have a dinghy at present. I used to have a flubber, but for various reasons it is no longer in my possession. So I am a traditional...

    T-Bone on the Twizzle

Wooden boats are strong things! Yup, I know of one owner that T-boned another yacht (not yours). I bet he made a dash down the companionway (which is what the chap I know did); I cant see any other way of hitting broadside otherwise.

    Mahogany (?) rubbing strake

It does sounds like you have the same sort of size as mine except in new money - like I said, I did not need to steam - and I suspect I might have a more curve in my hull as it is an older, and possibly slimmer design at the ends. Ofcourse the smaller the boat the more curve there tends to be...

Tanning a sail the modern way?

Indeed. I hear hibiscus juice works well for the tropics too

    Mahogany (?) rubbing strake

On a 22' boat mine mine are 1" x 1, 3/4" mahog (but I was working to blend with original wood - Iroko is much cheaper) - classic 30's bendy sheerline and they bent round without any steaming at all - that is why I asked how long the boat is. Scarphs - 7:1 joint min. 3x8ft sections. Gorilla Glue...

Tanning a sail the modern way?

I am still awaiting a response from toplicht, but I assume the product is Tan in colour?

    Mahogany (?) rubbing strake

Yes, make your own. Cheap PVC pipe - cross cut into 2" sections - and then long cut open with jigsaw - hundreds of "C" clamps at a few pence each. Of course thickness of strake will determine what pipe daimeter you go for.

    Mahogany (?) rubbing strake

An alternative approach? How big is the boat? If quite small I suspect it might be quicker and less hassle to make new rails in solid iroko - cheap and quick and saves a bomb on West and Labour. Just one tip, think about the way the scarphs will go - they will pop-out if placed the wrong way...

    Where are these boats now?

Fidelis I seem to recall these people had her for sale a couple of years ago; might want to ask. www.western-horizon.co.uk
