I have 5 brand new hinges which were made by Sowester, and therefore no longer available. They were off a Westerly Renown but I think fit most of the cockpit lids of that era. I will also chuck in 6 used hinges which are perfectly useable. This is a great way of replacing the cockpit hinges on a...
Just to update this thread for future reference, the problem was solved by just extending the length of the gear selector cable by approx 2mm.The vibration was obviously caused by partial engagement of the clutch cones, quite why it was related to the change of prop etc I can't say!
We’ve changed the drive plate!
The gear box has just been dismantled and the cone inspected but the engineer said nothing obviously wrong.
The prop was fine before I changed it to the folding prop and there’s been no damage to it since then.
Prop shaft has been checked for distortion and...
Just hoping that someone may be able to shed some light on my problem.
I have a Victoria 34 with a Yanmar 3GM30F engine. I have owned the boat for 20 years. Although I live in N Wales I keep her on the Clyde.
Its a long story!
Last September after not sailing for months due to lockdowns etc ...
Thanks for replies.
I have recently changed the prop. I had a folding prop which malfunctioned and have replaced it with the original fixed prop.
If it’s the engine mounts (which I have to admit are pretty old!) would you expect the problem only to happen when going forward?
I have a yanmar 3GM30F. I’m getting severe engine vibration when going forward , I can’t go above 1000rpm withoit the engine shaking itself apart. There is no problem in neutral or when going astern. An engineer has looked at the gearbox and said there were just some loose bolts on the drive...
Yes I could rotate fully. I’ve spoken to Bruntons and the only thing they can suggest is the blades are over rotating ie to a forward thrust pitch. Possibly due to a sheared stop pin internally. I’m arranging for a lift and to take the prop off. Unfortunately that’s not easy as I also need to...
It is a Variprop. I don’t think they make them anymore. The blades rotate and don’t fold. The play is about 10 degree on the shaft but I was assessing underwater so not the easiest to measure
Final day of a weeks cruise. Engine performed perfectly until entering berth tonight when engaging astern led to surge forward. Further investigation showed shaft rotating correctly forward and astern so presumed must be a problem with the prop. Prop is a Bruntons Variprop.

I had exactly the same experience in the same spot about 3 weeks ago. Was convinced it was coming from something on board. Switched off electrics to no avail and searched all bags for left on electrical devices. Drove me potty. Eventually thougt it was coming from the fish farm, but then found a...
