Mostly good advice apart from the outboard on a bracket bit. You must have missed the bit where the OP wants to cross the North Channel. And also that you've only observed outboards on brackets on other peoples boats and thought it a good idea, never been subjected to it yourself.
In that case forget Hunter 19s etc and get the biggest thing you can trailer and tow,.and pay to have the mast stepped by crane. I know someone who takes his X99 home for the winter and keeps it on his drive 💪
Are you thinking of putting said small craft on a summer mooring and taking it home in winter, or actual trailer sailing so tow, rig, and launch (and reverse) on each usage?
If it's the latter then that requires serious enthusiasm. I have a mate with a Lysander 17, a very modest boat, that I tow...
Yanmar 2gm, I guess either the new one or the old one is faulty somehow. Any way to test them?
Changed as routine maintenance, old one might be perfectly fine.
Westerly conway...I remember sailing one 8 up from Poland to Finland in the tall ships race many years ago, some fairly tasty weather too. Pretty crowded and got a bit minging when seasickness took hold of a couple. Boat seemed to like it though.
I ran a bottle through for 20 mins or so, water turned brown and foamy so did something. Rinsed well and engine still runs. Still significant deposits but I'll do it again next year.
My engine needs has some deposits for sure, if I take the anodes out and put my finger in I can feel it, quite bad in one of the anode holes. Yesterday I ran Rydlyme round for a couple of hours and I have to say it didn't seem to do much.
Conversely past week I cleaned my prop with this stuff...
It's quite common to join a club for the specific purpose of obtaining a mooring. You can get a mooring without a boat, nobody really cares if you put a boat on it or not. In recent years I've paid for two summer moorings that I never used, one in Scotland one in the Solent. Not on purpose but...
Is there a notice of race? If so it will state what, if any evidence is required. If it was under IRC then it would state the qualifying STIX or SSS number required and your irc certificate would provide this. If it is only onder ytc then this suggests informality and no evidence can be required...
Well, anywhere on the topsides could potentially be underwater if heeled far enough. Probably 15 inches above water line with a loop almost to deck level.
Installing a new bilge pump and the best pipe routing would have it exiting above the water line in the heads, just forward of the mast. I can't really think of a reason why this would be a problem except that it's unusual to see skin fittings so far forward and walking around the yard confirms...
My wife's parents are big cruise fans.. My wife has always wanted to go with them so with MIL being 80 next year I've finally agreed as there might not be much more time. At around 4500 for us two and two kids for a week I wouldn't call it a poor person's holiday in any way, in fact it will be...
