    YM Sept - Locks singlehanded

Before arriving at the lock lines readied fore, aft and midships both sides. Fenders on both sides with a spare to hand just in case. Older lines preferred because locks are often very dirty. Enter the lock, choose spot, and make fast smartly (very smartly if there is any wind) with a line to a...

How old is your inflatable tender

Suzumar tender and outboard combo purchased May 2002. Lightly used until 2006 then very heavy use. Outboard mounting plate corroded in 5 minutes. Painted with hammerite and still good. Started to suffer in the tropics so had a topside cover made in Brazil in 2008. Grab ropes were rubbish and...

Navionics PC App on a Mac

Well that was interesting. Couldn't find any reference to downloads on the Navionics site. Via google I got a PDF explaining how to get the PC App via the web store. Went to the web store. I had to download a Navionics App to enter the web store. The download started. Navionics.dmg 93.3 mb...

Navionics PC App on a Mac

Thanks for that detailed reply. My backup disc is an ADL Compact Flash 1GB disc, the same as the discs containing my Navionics Gold charts. I paid around £200 (5 years ago) each of my 2 Navionics Gold chart discs. My gripe has always been having to pay for the same thing or similar again...

Navionics PC App on a Mac

Navionics Gold on the Mac This is very interesting. I can't add any constructive comments but I do have some questions. I have a Raymarine C70 plotter (installed 2006) using Navionics Gold charts. While the system works well I have never liked the inability to use my charts on a Mac. Perhaps...

    Shaft Coupling Yanmar 2GM20

Arriving in Rio Grande my shaft coupling failed (for the second time). In 2006 the shaft slid back about an inch. A Yanmar dealer redid the coupling and added the arrowed grub screw. The shaft is secured by 4 allen bolts, a pin and the grub screw. When this picture was taken I could slide...

real life experience of wind generators?

Real life experience of wind generators? I'll second the Superwind. Fitted one in 2006 and very happy with it. Very solidly built and after 4 years of live aboard heavy use it is running perfectly. Initially I mounted it on a pole on the port quarter but had issues in locks and alongside high...

    Overwintering In galicia

Winter in Galicia Spent winter 2006-7 in La Coruna living aboard. At the commercial marina they were keen to encourage long term visitors. I paid around 100 euros per month for 6 months (in advance) for a serviced berth in the inner harbour. Electricity included. The outer harbour is far...

    2GM20 Exhaust Elbow

I would remove and inspect the elbow. Here's why... Kiriwina is fitted with a 1997 2GM20F. Last year I noticed SW leaking from the elbow.(Engine hrs around 1600) The cause was a hairline crack in the elbow. I had no trouble removing the elbow although the gasket did not come off cleanly. On...

    Velas Sudamérica 2010

A real treat in Buenos Aires this week. Tall ships participating in Velas Sudamérica 2010 are in port and open to the public. All the ones we visited were built in europe with the exception of the Argentine built Libertad. Excellent website with lots of photos and links.
