Talking to the local sail-maker about taking down the furling main and genoa for winter he says keeping them rolled is better than folding/flaking. We leave ours on and put extra ties around them to stop any unfurling.
Thank you - this is all good stuff! I may trouble you with a list of queries in a PM once I have ordered my thoughts. One question here though - What do the Kiwis' consider to be "offshore" ? - I'm sure Google would tell me but I would prefer to hear it from "One Who Knows"
Letting my mind roam of the possibility of buying a boat to stay on 6 months of the year in NZ as a UK citizen, and then spending the other 6 on our original vessel back in the UK. Not sure we fancy the semi circumnavigation, so no suggestions of taking our own thanks, but I would like to hear...
Sailor Girl- thanks we are in Tyrell Bay now! So off on the prowl for your suggestions soon.
Phanakapan - no sweat, on this chartering lark We feel the need to cover a bit of ground so we've moved on up, had a look out for your boat on the way but didn't make her out. I must say coming here it...
It is always good to hear positive reports. Perhaps, one day we'll get our own boat across and spend more time (and more cheaply !) nosing about than just chartering, but the need for warmth and some exotic locations is required ahead of an Outer Hebridean trip later in May.
Will do, you are just around the corner! I saw your post last week about completing your circumnavigation and wondered if we would catch sight of you anchored up - well done btw! A tad more adventurous than we have managed yet.
I am staring at the Doyle book just now, and some French chap's too all good stuff. We have gone with a Dream Yacht Charter boat it is a beneteau Oceanis 41 . I 'll try that website too.
Ok it is nearly time to go and should be there Saturday eve to pick up the boat in Port Louis marina. Will probably stay local for a day or so to settle in. And then try out all the suggestions.
We have lined up a couple of weeks yacht charter in Grenada. Probably will skip popping up to St. Vincent given the background info on crime etc.; but does anyone have any hints/tips/highlights/must sees etc. in and around Grenada please?
