Needs to be a big or complicated network for N2K latency to be an issue for the vast majority of users. If it's an issue then Ethernet is a better option than 0183, but that's usually reserved for things like radar, multi MFD networking etc, although it's now starting to spread to more devices...
If you can fit a 12" plotter at the helm, i would do that.
The current Raymarine displays will not directly connect to anything new, but with a Seatalk to Seatalk NG converter they will connect to anything STNG or NMEA 2000.
The autopilot could also be used via the same converter, but cannot...
