Last year I replaced a Raystar 125 with a Digital Yacht GPS160.
I left the original Raystar cable in place and spliced the new GPS to that cable.
For the splice I used 5 x Wago 221 inline connectors, which I had glued together side by side, and these were mounted in a small waterproof junction...

Battery bank consists of 6 x Trojan T145's 6 Volt FLA batteries. All six batteries were purchased in August last year and installed at the end of that month.

If I recall correctly, the B&G mast head mounting came with 20 meters of cable, but I'm not sure if it was terminated with a plug, or just left with bare wires.
A junction box would seem sensible as it allows unstepping the mast.

In most cases, if there is an error with the DISPLAY unit, an error code is generated, not so sure if error codes are displayed when there is a fault with the transducer.
The connection junction box should be close to the base of the mast, mine is a small black box, about 3" x 2" x 0.75"...

For true wind speed, the B&G Wind gets the boat speed from the B&G speed display.
When the yard removed the MHU, did they check that the connections between the MHU and the mounting were good, no corrosion and dry.
