There's so many other things to worry about that I never give a thought to shorepower. The act of leaving always seems to disconnect it.

There's an oxalic acid based gel designed for cleaning gelcoat called Y10. It brings up tired gelcoat wonderfully, but it also cleans teak. Suspect it might be a more expensive option than crystals, though.

The French transmit continuous forecasts on ch23 and 24, I think (might be 22 & 23 - they're listed in the Med. Almanac). One is for the Lion Gulf and the other for Corsica.
The Italians transmit a continuous, automated forecast I think on ch68 (also in the Almanac) that pretty much covers the...
Try Fairclip Yachting on 01932 862984. I think they make them for boats up to around 40'.
The effectiveness of wave mufflers seems to depend a lot on the exact shape of the stern and the nature and direction of the sea. To test the principle, string several fenders together end-to-end, tie...
Where do you want to end up? If you're prepared to go East of Lagos/Vilamora/Portimao (Lagos ludicrously expensive):

Having sailed with many, my experience is that FastTrack YMs from most schools - with one possible exception that I know of - are not YMs. They simply have had no...
Why is having a radar scanner sometimes alledged to improve your own radar cross-section? Is it (a) because your transmissions are detected (in which case obviously it must be on to have any effect), or (b) because the physical presence of a scanner acts as a reflector.
(a) I could believe...
Does it really matter? I appreciate the science of getting it right a la YM, but for practical purposes surely at the top of the curve the height and flow differences are going to be slight?

"Umm Qasr is a city similar to Southampton," UK defence minister Geoff Hoon said in The Commons yesterday. "He's either never been to Southampton, or he's never been to Umm Qasr" says a British Squaddie patrolling Umm Qasr. Another soldier added: "There's no beer, no prostitutes and people are...
