Of course all consumers need fusing.
Including engine start batteries in my opinion. Any engine of a smaller size - under 150 hp or so - can be easily fused.
Quote:Electrodacus is build in low volume in Canada by the guy designing it, he's v.knowledgeable but v.focused on what he wants and not really flexible on others' needs. He's somewhere in the vast plains of Canada with a large array of solar keeping his house running on solar alone (or...
Your start battery resting at a full charge is about 12.8 volts. If the relay kicks in at 13.1 volts the battery is fully charged and on the way down to a resting voltage. In other words you are keeping it at full charge all the time.
Better to fully charge and turn the charger off for a month...
Blue Seas has 2 different class T fuse holders. The first is similar to the ANL fuse holder - the cover can be hard to remove. The second type which is newer is a big improvement.
The price of a good solar controller like a Victron is little added to a LiFePo4 system. In my case all equipment is Victron so no relays needed.
The Overkill is a good choice for a typical BMS with the current passing through it. I have one I will use for a portable battery pack for an...
The Tao Performance BMS is also designed for marine use. TAO Performance ‣ Lithium Battery & Energy Management System
I don't know what specifically makes a "marine BMS" though. As far as being suitable for marine use there are a few. Orion, good but expensive. Overkill Solar are good and not...
It is a lot of cells for 24 volts.
As far as prices buy from a major Chinese distributor instead of a retailer that just adds profit for themselves.
Lythbattery.Com is who I deal with -on second order now. Prices less than half that of US retailers.
Nordkyn advises that cells for marine use should be no larger than 200 AH for reasons of robustness.
The reason I am using Calb CA180 in 2P4S configuration.
I have never been a fan of drop-in batteries, even though I sell Victron which are good quality. Of course the Victron solution to drop-in batteries is quite expensive.
A DIY system doesn't have to be expensive - in fact it can be a lot less expensive than drop-in batteries if you search out...
Yes, prices are dropping if you buy from the right places.
I have on the way 8 Calb CA180 cells purchased for $80 US each. New grade A cells with extra busbars. With shipping - China to Victoria B.C. - 902 US. That includes all duties etc.
That converts to $1179 Cdn.
For comparison 4 Trojan...

You state " ...I know if I set my mppt to 20v once one cell hits 3.6v which is my safety setting the bms tells the relay to open."
Does that mean that the charging stops but the loads are still active with your bms?
I am a full time liveaboard as well, heading offshore in the...
