    Just look at those settees

Great opportunity for some skating on glossy floor. Ours is bad enough if I swim and then go below deck. I suppose my feet would be dry after walking 50' from bathing platform on hot teak. So not a big problem having a gloss carbon fibre floor. :D

    Gaffer tape !!

HG Sticker Remover seems to be mainly light naptha fractions (similar to lighter fluids, white spirit, etc.) with some (2-methoxymethylethoxy) propanol. The latter might help to soften the residue and the mixture won't flash off as both components have pretty high boiling points. Could be...

    Hurricane Milton

Going over to visit friends on their boat in a few minutes. They have a house at Howey in the Hills. No worry about storm surge but freshwater flooding might be an issue (flash flooding?). Milton has an unusual track as it's likely to go straight across the middle. Most track upwards, often...

    Levkas Bridge-New Opening times.

Yes, we often see huge gaps and 1st boat about 100m from bridge when it starts opening. They often hang back and don't move until it's fully open. I know you need to be sensible and number of charter boats makes you want to leave more space but it can be a bit silly. When we sailed in Holland...

    Levkas Santa Maura Bridge problem

Friends just called to warn us that the bridge is out of action. I'll try to double check elsewhere. I was told that it had failed certification a couple of days ago. It may be opened just to let a ferry through from Corfu but no other boats allowed. Road traffic not affected at present...

The Polish maritime authorities have tightened requirements

Probably the same for any location as Part I has implications for title. Imagine insurance scams would abound if you could manage to register an imaginary boat. :D

Red / Green combined nav light ??

Mine was the same and never a problem, even in horrible conditions in North sea over 24 years. However, no attempt to waterproof the light. I used to take it apart every winter and refit in spring. Plenty of stuff like Contralube or equivalent slowed corrosion.

The Polish maritime authorities have tightened requirements

I remember thinking the measurement for Part 1 was a bit of a scam way back in 2009. I handed the surveyor Jeanneau's blurb and he said measurements from that would be fine. On second thoughts, he measured from bilge to deck at one point (might have been up to coachroof). Job done in under 10...

Red / Green combined nav light ??

I remember the Aqua Signal. My old Southerly had them. Locking lever on steaming light worked well. Stern light didn't until I bent the internal hook slightly with a screwdriver. One on the stern responded to same treatment but loosened off again after a couple of years. I used to loop...

    Cleaning heads pipes!

Yes and you need to go slowly to avoid pressure from gas being evolved. I did a rough calculation years ago to estimate acid needed per metre of hose. The figure was quite large when layer in pipe was closed to blocking it. Wish I could remember but think it might have been 5ltr per metre...

    Cleaning heads pipes!

I was going to say the same thing. Caustic soda most likely but still surprised it attacked Marelon so quickly. Some acids I used to handle would eat through industrial rubber gloves pretty quickly. Dilute hydrochloric a id wouldn't do anything to items mentioned unless temperature was really...

    Cleaning heads pipes!

Our 2009 vintage heads are still fine. Only pee in the fwd head that's direct to sea. Always 24 strokes to flush and never any build-up. Also have T-piece to allow odd fresh water flush from basin drain. Never any rotten egg smell either. Aft head to holding tank has minimal flushes...

    Orca attack

I remember the authorities used to spray for mozzies in one area. Never much of a problem until they didn't one year. Terrible and back to normal next year. Can't remember where without digging out old notes.

    Orca attack

I'd be surprised if they took a bite out of the rudder while he was moving backwards. Perhaps it happened when still going forwards or before he'd picked up any speed in reverse. Extra strain when moving backwards after damage to the rudder would explain the linkage breaking. It makes sense...
