Well that driver wins the "Who's having the worst day at work award!"
The liability cost to that transport co will be eye watering - not only for the boat but also the costs levied from network rail for the line shutdown and resultant structural survey! Ouch!
I find it hard to get past such a waste of non recyclable, single use resources. Give it a year / 18 months and all the boats will be derelict and rotting away in a boatyard somewhere. But hey, at least we have paper straws to help save the environment. 🙄
We've got a swinging mooring and I cannot see us getting a pontoon anytime soon. Main reasons for me are;
1) Cost - we bought our mooring for the equivalent of a years marina berth. Therefore our summer costs are on average £300 servicing and £100 or so between the king & mooring association...
If we’re on an ocean passage and the battery dies it might be a problem that ends in not knowing the exact wind speed…
I’ll classify that on my internal risk register as “acceptable” 😎
That’s the approach I took. Now on its 5th or 6th season of faultless operation.
I confess that I expected some issue this spring as we had the mast down this winter and the mast head unit was off off the mast and in a locker inside the boat - no solar recharging and I expected the battery to...
The current crop may think that a headline of "Clamping down on irresponsible yacht owners" complete with pictures of Mr Bezos new toy may bring them some votes.
The fact the incident involved a small day boat is entirely irrelevant.
+1
New boat,
long days sailing
New marina
In that dark
Outside of peak season
Nope. “Sorry, I’m exhausted from todays sail, tied up and settled down here - if you need me to move in the morning I will do so, but for now this berth is good enough for me - I’ve got my slippers & a glass of red...
All a good write up and positive things guys.
We don’t live aboard, but onboard most weekends and rarely in a marina. Just launched and my lead acid batteries 3x120ah feel quite weak and down to 85% after 24h of only light loads - charging phone x1, laptop x1 and running instruments.
Suspect...
We switched last season at exorbitant cost to camping gaz, but kept the calor bottles. I would have switched to flow gas in an instant if the bottled would have fitted in the gas locker.
I expect I’ll go back to calor so we can store more gas on board…
I’d love to sack the buggers off...
Any recommendations? Yes get one. Well worth the cost.
They really are brilliant. Major thing we found advantageous was the rear un-zipping & rolling up. That way you can sit at anchor when it’s pouring down with rain and still be sat in the dry with a good unhindered view.
