Ok, thanks for the replies.. You know what, I never thought about leaving the pump turned on all the time and fitting a normal tap. But PVB I like your suggestion of a tap and microswitch. Found one called comet and it looks perfect for me. Many thanks!

I changed the hand pump in my sink to this simple electric 12v one. It's almost too good because it pushes a lot of water out which I can ill afford to waste. It's fine when filling up saucepans or the kettle but it needs a reduced flow when rinsing the crockery etc. It has a single on off...
