Bareboat in Med with novice friends - where?

I know the OP said bareboat charter - but why take the stressful option? On your own with a novice crew who want short hops and lots of swimming at lunch time. Sounds like a flotilla would be the ideal option. Plenty of choice in Greece and no worries about planning routes and overnight...

Hi Vic, the other SH flot lost 4 boats. All the crews are safe and in hotels.

    Bad weather

Yes, that's where we all are Vic.. Flat calm, not a breath of wind. Didn't see you in Trizonia. Did you see the wedding party? The Wedding was supposed to be an outdoor event. We really felt for the bride walking past in torrential rain holding her wedding dress up to her waist...

ADRIFT, anyone going to see it when it comes out?

We went to see Adrift last week and really enjoyed it. 10 people in the cinema but it was the 3.15 pm showing. Make your own mind up about the "twist" at the end. Definitely worth a watch.

    Radio licence and Mmsi

Well not really. The OP's question was about obtaining a Ships Radio Licence. He was under the impression that you need to hold an SRC to apply for a Ships Radio Licence. You don't. The Ships Radio Licence is usually in the name of the owner of the vessel. This may or may not be the...

    Radio licence and Mmsi

Ditto The Ships Radio Licence and the operator's Certificate of Competence are two entirely separate entities. Has your boat previously been issued with a British MMSI - perhaps to a previous owner? If so, the MMSI will stay the same. You will need to enter it during the online application...

    MMSI "inheritance"

Ah yes, glasses on. In which case the MMSI stays with the boat - he applies for a licence and inputs the existing MMSI - as long as it is the correct one.

    MMSI "inheritance"

You can't do that. I assume the OP has bought a second hand radio with an MMSI programmed into it. This MMSI will be allocated to another boat which may have other GMDSS equipment on it with the same MMSI programmed in - a new DSC radio for example. The MMSI always stays with the boat...

Rough cost to move a boat from the Thames to Norfolk Broads?

It's definitely worth taking your own boat IMHO. We are based on the Great Ouse but have had our boat taken to the Thames twice and the Broads once in the past. This has been significantly cheaper than hiring - and we have our own things on our boat. If you really want to spend a...

Rough cost to move a boat from the Thames to Norfolk Broads?

Try GMR Boat Transport. I am using them next week to transport my Viking 26 WB to the Broads. £400 one way. They have trailers and crane fitted lorries. http://www.gmronline.co.uk/ By the way, you mentioned going to the Broads "for a couple of months". The max visitor licence period...
