    Duplicate certificates from RYA ?

I applied and managed to get VHF, Yacht master, PB 2, Rescue Boat and I think Radar, Sea Survival. Cost me about £100 but I was very grateful. Used the RYA form as directed using the information from photocopies held of originals. Hope this helps.

    Quotations

I'm trying to tie down a couple of maritime quotations that i've forgotten the exact words to: * one from Des Sleightholme about the numerous varieties of mud that he was familiar with (similar to Eskimos and their snow lexican). * one from an Admiral about not wishing to lose a ship before...

Need to occasionally cross rivers - what to use?

Packrafting Following on from Mark's reply. Caught this flicking thru the Observer this morning Packraft Adventure from tirio.co.uk, they use 'German made Anfibio Packraft which weighs 2kg and can carry up to 180kg, a quick search shows them retailing at eur529. Perhaps more expensive but ideal...

    Sail Life on YouTube

My wife admires his tidiness and attention to detail which she recommends to me. Certainly a good video looking at the repair of a deck - anyone considering this work might find the issues raised interesting. In spite of my wife's remarks, his 'spiffing' videos get my thumbs up.

    Nesting dinghy for the foredeck?

Sorry, I think I'm approaching this from another angle in that I like the PT-11 as a boat to row and sail and has the advantage that I could easily carry it on a boat. The videos of it being rowed show significant 'run' and it looks both fast and enjoyable to sail. The boats suggested by others...

    Nesting dinghy for the foredeck?

I've been looking for plans for a small dinghy to build as a winter project when I came across the PT 11 https://youtu.be/BsWtDD_pl6o which looks like a versatile solution. However, it's kit only, no 'plans only' option and pricey at nearly £3500 for the basic kit. Seems like a possible...

Anybody ever seen anything like this before?

Sailing in the Clyde we used to see occasionally the depth sounder drop to 5 metres or less in the middle of where 100 metres was expected. I always panicked, took a look round, peered over the side and checked the chart again but never knew what was happening. My guess was fish but I'm...

Boat monitoring with Android and ebay bits

Thanks for the information. I think this solution relies on the tablet (running node-red) sending out regular messages, tweets or the data encoded in Mosquito. I was hoping the remote user could send requests to the tablet (node-red) and pull up the console in his browser. I know this works...

Boat monitoring with Android and ebay bits

Hi, Can this break out of a WiFi network?, ie. Can you access your node-red (effectively a server) tablet from home to get hold of the data, assuming it has a data SIM. Or will the tablet always have to collect the data and push it out. I'm really thinking here of Home monitoring whilst on holiday.
