Nonsense. Asgard was very well maintained and I know from someone connected with the ship that the planned maintance was very minor and not urgent.
Whatever happend , happened very fast. When the alarms went off the water was already surging in.

Interesting part is who the rules apply to - Pleasure boats, which in turn is defined as Fast Power Craft and PWCs. Not a lawyer but it appears not to apply to sailing boats.

Re: Look what\'s coming
Actually if you read the legislation it appears to only apply to PWC's and High speed motor craft (>17 knots under engine) - does not apply to sailing boats. At least the definition of "pleasure craft" seems to say so.

Yes this is the same. I understand the need to isolate the engine batt once started so that it doesn't get drawn down but I guess I need to figure a way to stop the voltage drop on the house bank when starting the engine. The only way I can see it working is to only have the engine battery...
I didn't see which way the switches were - there were three. Black (master) and two other reds which are isolation switches rather than selectors.

Was on a friends Ben 44.7 last night and when he started the engine the house batteries voltage went way down (computer rebooted!). When I checked the connections on the batteries it appears that the engine and house banks are connected in parallel so when the engine started it used the house...
It regulates the supply. Some devices don't like 11 or 11.5 volts and behave badly. What the Dc/DC converter does it ensure that no matter what the input is the output will allways be 12 (until the battery runs down of course).

THe TFT is a Monitor/TV and draws 48 watts peak at 12 volts (about 4.4 amps). THe laptop is around 2 but I want to allow for some margin of error. Rather not go with the inverter as they are not as efficient as dc/dc.

HI all,
Looking for a dc/dc converter - Need to be 12 volts input have 2 outputs of 12 volt, and capable of delivering max of 8 amps (Laptop and LCD panel). Anyone got any recomendations?
thanks -Kevin

I have both on my laptop - Cmap NT, S57 (both Vector) and Maptech and SHOM (both Raster). I agree with others that when you zoom raster charts they can be distorted - you do need to view them at their intended scale. In their favour raster charts are more familiar to us. We've grown up with...
Re: Health & safety issue.
Actually not quite correct. A company car or a truck is considered a place of work and therefore the ban applies. If you have two employees travelling in a car/truck and one smokes but the other does not then the ban is designed to protect the non smoker from HAVING...
Bedouin.
As others have said there's lots of good sailing to be had. Howth and Dun Laoghaire are the two main spots - Dun Laoghaire being the larger, has 4 sailing clubs (Two Royal...) and a new 700+ berth marina with everything you need. Howth is only about 5/6 miles away and a nice spot also...
I'm in the market for one of these as well. Just sold my 40.7 and believe the 393 is a great boat for the money. Its well designed below, will do coastal cruising with ease and has a nice turn of perforance while not over powering you. I also like the open stern which makes boarding easy, I like...
