    Generator

Some years ago we had a Honda 1000. We used to tie it to the mast underway. One day I noticed my dog cocking his leg on it. When I came to start it flames shot out the front! I took it to my local Honda dealer who couldn't fix it. The poor bloke said he couldn't understand what had happened...

    single/short handed cruising

I would be very tempted by a Hunter horizon 31 ( English hunter). Sails very well with twin keels so you can take ghe mud and explore all those buts I can't get to with my deep draught. Also cheaper to berth on a drying mooring.

How I hate the anchor trip line

Two years ago we were anchored in a busy French anchorage with a trip line to a buoy. We got back from the restaurant to find we were the only boat pointing away from the wind. The line had got wedged between the top of my rudder and the skeg. I was effectively moored by the rudder . Fortunately...

Working out my gear ratio - Borg Warner velvet drive 71C

Thankyou both for your replies. 1:1.5 sounds right based on my own calculations of engine horsepower and prop size. Many thanks

Working out my gear ratio - Borg Warner velvet drive 71C

Hi All I have a velvet drive 71C in my Moody Grenadier. I have had lots of issues with it (have had it rebuilt three times in 16 years) and would love to get another so I have at least a spare on board. Trouble is that the plate is horribly tarnished / damaged and almost impossible to read and I...

    Roaming charges are back

Hi I am not sure if this is well known or not but we use EE. We were existing customers and around the date of Brexit we went into the local EE shop and explained that we lived on the boat in the Mediterranean for 6 months each year. They sorted out a package for us. Since then it has been...

    Marína berth Coruna

When you do get a boat have a think about Sadamar marina for lifting and wintering. Very friendly and real cheap. Just across the bay from Coruna

Passport Stamping now that Croatia has joined Schengen

Hi I know this is after the horse has bolted. We have a 6 month visa for France. We started the year in Spain before our visa start. I checked with the French consulate and they were adamant that we were not allowed to go straight from Schengen time in Spain to Visa time in France. We had to (...

    Non working visa EU

Hi Goeasy123. I have tried and failed to get info about how become a transit log sailor in Spain. Both guardia frontiera and yacht agents have repeatedly told me that you can only do this if you have a uk seaman’s discharge book. Getting one of these is not at all simple. Am I missing...

    Non working visa EU

Hi I would be very interested to know how you managed to get transit logs for Spain. I have been told that without a Seamans discharge book this can’t be done. Any info would be greatly appreciated Thanks

    Recommendation for Halcyon Yacht Deliveries

I must pass on my thanks and give a glowing recommendation to Halcyon Yacht Deliveries who have just brought my Grenadier back to the UK from the Netherlands. We weren't allowed to fetch her ourselves due to the Dutch and English covid rules, but Halcyon managed to find a dual nationality...

    90 in 180 limit from 1st January.

This has a big effect on me, as we tend to travel round Europe for long periods. Therefore I wrote to my MP this week about this issue and got a reply from the Minister for the European community. The reply confirmed that we will be restricted to 90/180 and that "both EU and Non-EU citizens...

    90 in 180 limit from 1st January.

There will be no problem tracking you if you have your AIS broadcasting. We were stopped by French customs a couple of years ago and the guy had an IPAD showing exactly where we had been and when. Then the onus is on you to prove you were out of the EU but your boat was in it.

Want a new tender. Advice please

We have had a walker bay 8 for three years now and are very pleased with it. It works for us keeping it on the fore deck strapped down, but it also tows well. It is pricey but has the advantage of being quite a good little sailing dinghy.
