Hi livaboards,
Our family is on hols in St. Jean De Lux for a few more days and we would love to meet anyone near here, Hendaye or San Sebastian.
I have half promised, half threatened my wife that we will sail away as soon as we can, so I thought it would either make or break the idea if she...
Thank you for the info.
It appears to be a niche concept but makes perfect sense to me.
It's a pity so few boats are capable of voyaging at an economical steady speed, keeping owners warm and dry and go anywhere.
Can't wait to retire !

For too long I have drooled over Steve Dashew's website, http://www.setsail.com/
I am left wondering is it possible to buy/build a more affordable alternative. Atlantic crossing and canal crawling in one boat ?

Kenneth,
Have you thought about a Nicholson 32 ?
Fantastic sea boat, with at least two taking in next years Gloden Globe Race.

I love the Haber concept of self steering and the overall philosophy of real cruising, go anywhere boats. In lieu of a Boreal 44, which are multiples of the price of a Haber, they have my vote. When I retire...

I had the same dilemma this Summer.
A tattered UV strip on a reasonably good sail and I got much the same quote. I understand the sailmaker needs that much to make it worth his while but for an old sail it's not worth it for me.
So I stuck on sail repair strips and sewed them up on an old...
That looks like a really cool timer. If it had a "Marine" badge, it would be 10 times the price.
I have used the alarm on my smartphone. I also probably rely on the buzzer from my AIS too much but the thought of something big bearing down, does get you up.

This line jumped out at me, from a recent post by Dylan Winter.
"We have immortal boats, perfect weather forecasts (three days out anyway), easy navigation, brilliant communications, beam me up scottie and no men with guns".
I have sailed with an expert sailor who has crossed oceans without...
Great idea NealB.
If I had not bought earlier this year I would be first in the queue.
There must be thousands of vessels that could have a new lease of life if more people made the same offer.
Hope it finds a great pair of hands to sail it well.

You're spoiled for choice. My favourites would be Arklow, Greystones or come straight up the Liffey to Dublin and Poolbeg Marina. Walking distance to Dublin City, not biased but I'm a member !
