Deadeye - Death at the Classic Regatta

Sounds like you were lucky enough to skip the original ending - good call

Deadeye - Death at the Classic Regatta

Talking of wooden yachts - My dad was a boatbuilder and I grew up sailing a Broads boat on the Deben. Lady was twenty-eight feet long, gaff rigged and I could stand up inside her until I was about four. We had a bucket in the cockpit for luxury looing. Youngsters these days don’t know they’re born

Deadeye - Death at the Classic Regatta

I can’t imagine anyone giving away the secrets of Riddle of the Sands - it’s the ultimate sailor’s mystery. A must read! But if you must know, it’s all about the Germans pre-war and what they might just do…

Deadeye - Death at the Classic Regatta

I’m very sorry to hear about your students. My writing teacher was murdered here in the UK last year by her husband. There’s still a shocking amount of violence in the world. Thank you so much for trying the book. I really hope you like it. Someone who lived in Antigua told me she recognised...

Deadeye - Death at the Classic Regatta

There’s a scene with a man touching the hull of a wooden yacht appreciatively…

Deadeye - Death at the Classic Regatta

A real cliffhanger would include the Deben entrance plus the old Seagull outboard on my dad’s boat from when we were kids. I learned to pray on Sundays, but not at church

Deadeye - Death at the Classic Regatta

Funny you should say that, I did include the Deben entrance in another novel called Offshore. I gave that one a full-on re-write recently because it desperately needed it. And for anyone who did read Offshore, the ending is now 249,000 times better, I promise. (It is also true to say that it...

Deadeye - Death at the Classic Regatta

Ha! Agreed. There is discussion about the best way to store marine paint and the advantages of wooden yachts over GRP, plus a murder which does slow down the pros and cons of internal headroom in a small yacht argument that goes with it but you can’t have it all.

Deadeye - Death at the Classic Regatta

Dear lovely East coasters, from the sanctuary of the river Deben, I have written a sailing novel that very kind people say is good. It’s available on Amazon by Jez Evans, I hope that this doesn’t contravene the rules to mention it but I could do with some readers and a 5-star review or two. (Or...

Heading for the Baltic/Limfjord question 2- wind

We were discussing (not quite arguing) whether the prevailing winds around the Baltic Skagerak/ Limfjord eastern side at Thyboron entrance would be northeasterlies or southwesterlies in Late June/early July. What are your thoughts, please?

    Ramsholt: more sad news

I was at the quay yesterday and it feels quite strange that George isn’t there. Very sorry to see Bill has gone, too. Both great fellows of the old school. I miss them both.

    Deben entrance 2024

Came in to the Deben on Thursday last week. I have come in from the Orwell every spring for the last few seasons in late March or early April, this is the first time I have ever asked John White if he could show me the route in. It was actually very simple (not least because he knew the way)...

George Collins - Ramsholt Harbour Master

Rest in Peace, George. I always did my best to sail the boat right when going past the Ramsholt Arms because I knew that George kept an eye on everything we did, and I wanted to make him proud. He was our harbourmaster and his knowledge and care for the river reassured us that everything was...

Atlantic Crossing - the biggest dilemma, what shall I buy them for Christmas that will be useful?

Thanks, everyone. I’m not sure my sister will go for the Razzlers magazine or the student Frey Bentos, she definitely needs to think about satellite phones but I’m not buying her one for Christmas. I did like the cup holder, or maybe the fishing lures and a copy of Jimmy Cornell’s routing...
