My knowledge is from10 years and more ago but, as no one else has chipped in, here goes... I presume you are starting in the Blue Lagoon area. Do as much provisioning as you can from there as, going south, there is little in the way of decent sized supermarkets until you get to Grenada. Don't...
Coming to this thread a bit late but, if you are still looking, this is what we used when doing a circumnavigation... Topsail They were, at the time, the insurers of choice for people doing World Cruising Club events. We didn't have to make any claims so don't know how they are in those...
Took a rented Le Boat Horizon 2 the length of the Canal du Midi and the Canal d Garonne earlier this year. Stated air draft is 2.90 m with a beam of 4.2 m. It was very, very tight on a few of the bridges (made contact with the lowest, Capestang). This thing was almost as wide at the top as at...
I bareboat chartered my 44ft Privilege cat in the BVI from brand new until 6 years old. When new the boat chartered in excess of 35 weeks each year but by the time it was 6 years old it was less than 20 weeks. However, I then ran it as crewed charter for a couple of years and nobody gave a damn...
I had BPPV suddenly occur every time I looked upwards. Absolutely terrifying until you get the diagnosis!
I see you say you can't perform the Epley manoeuvre because of neck problems. I have arthritis in the neck so quite reasonably limited range of movement. My GP got over this by turning from...
The cruising is wonderful if what you want is mainly short distances between snorkel stops and beach bars. If you are serious sailors it can be a little boring, in my humble opinion. I had my boat in charter with TMM ( http://www.sailtmm.com/ ) for several years before running her as crewed...
I went around the world on a World Cruising Club event that had many different nationalities. The only people known to have guns aboard was of course American and they had to surrender them on arrival at most countries. Funnily enough they were the only boat robbed on the entire circumnavigation...
Any particular reason you aren't considering a catamaran? That's the usual choice for ex-mobo people. Don't know what your budget is but you can get something very nice, capable of circumnavigating for £100k or less if you are willing to have something from the 90's or earlier.
Here's a link to the details of Paraquita Bay... http://www.bvimarineassociation.com/downloads/1607PARAQUITA%20BASE%20PLAN%2026%20Jun17.pdf You'd think it would survive anything, but, apparently not.
Hi Ryan and Elena... Nice to see you starting what should be a great adventure. My first cat experience was a long weekend charter aboard one of Kittiwake's big sisters, a Star Twins, many years ago. Shall watch your journeys with interest.
A friend of mine has/had a small Solaris cat in the Exmouth area. I'll contact him and see if he still has it. Last time I was in touch with him he was thinking of selling so he'll either be very interested in helping you or completely unable to help!!!
If you are still in the UK then buy a 3 payg sim for a quid then buy the £25 unlimited add on that lasts 30 days. Gets you unlimited internet with the one restriction that you can't 'tether' a laptop. Free phone calls to UK numbers and 3.9p / minute to Spanish numbers.
I've done this several...
I used, just for fun, a Davis Mk3 sextant while doing a rtw. I found I could get within 10-15 nm on a noon sight without to much difficulty. I never expected to need to use it in anger, I just wanted to know if I could be accurate enough to know when I was getting close to land. I could.
What company is it? Friends recently hired a car at Alicante Airport from an internet site. When they got to the airport they had the choice of the fully comprehensive insurance with no excess or handing over the credit card for €3500 deposit. They handed over the card. Usually when this happens...
