A few years ago a kind person on this forum made us a new sail cover for our Hawk 20 https://www.fifesailability.org.uk/ Unfortunately last summer some vandals swam out to the mooring, removed the cover and threw it overboard. Yes, vandalised a boat used to take disabled people sailing:-(...
Normally when the boat is on the berth we leave the fridge switched on and the battery charger plugged in. However, this time the mains supply failed and the fridge was left running on the domestic battery for two weeks. The terminal voltage had fallen to 6.5V. My question is will the domestic...
Our Beta engine has a wasting anode which we had completely forgotten about. Cant believe that has never happened before:-) On withdrawing the bolt the zinc cylinder has completely disappeared. Must have all dissolved away I think. However the replacement one will not go in. Could the zinc...
On all the other boats I have sailed the rams horn is immovable but this one on our Westerly Fulmar pivots and hinges. Always ends up in the wrong position and a right pain imho. Has anyone any experience of this or how to replace it with a more convention system?
At Fife sailability HOME | Sailability one of the boats we operate is a Hawk 20 and we need to replace a very tatty boom cover. Does anyone out there have something stashed away in their loft or garage that they might be prepared to donate to us. The boom is just under 3m long.
Charlestown in a tragedy and a travesty. Potentially beautiful harbour in a great locations but full of rotting hulks and unfriendly, unwelcoming people. Such a waste. On a side note: I interviewed for a position with the now defunct Hawker Siddeley Aviation in 1970 and the lead interviewer...
This is a rod kicker off a Hawk 20. All I know about it is that it doesn't work. No sign of any makers name or the like. Does anyone recognise the make/brand/model so that I can search for info or alternatively have any idea how it ma y be taken apart and serviced?
When doing winter check on life jackets I was always careful to blow them up with a pump to avoid introducing moisture. I have lately been told this is not necessary. What is good practice folks
Thanks, Someone from Orkney has replied on social media an offered to send me a spare The splines on the shaft are much better I think the handle is a softer metal. It is stamped Zn which is a bit of a clue:-) Certainly non ferrous. May come back to you if that's OK and the Orkney gent...
Can anyone tell me where I can source a new lever for my morse control? My googling comes up with the whole unit but I cant find the lever on its own. The teeth on the inside have become worn and it doesn't grip the shaft and this led to a rather challenging sail onto the pontoon:-)
In the dark recesses of our boat we found this

It was dismantled and when I assembled it there were a few pieces left over. Clearly a wind doobry of some kind but no idea what or how it can drive. Anyone got any idea what it is or have a use for it?
