    Wallet and phone fell out of an unzipped pocket when I bent down to release a mooring line. Grabbed the wallet but not the phone. With hindsight I should have grabbed the phone first as the wallet sank much more slowly giving me time to grasp it also.

    Probably the easiest way, only I would use a block of wood, not cardboard, less chance of damaging the surrounding timber

    If it is just a temporary solution then I wouldn't be too fussed about choice of paint, any reputable brand will do the job. You might want to look for some that is classed as food safe though. Otherwise just go for it.
