    Port Hamble

31p per litre last weekend. I'm sure it was 45p last time I filled up in Port Hamble. Apparently MDL has taken the filling pontoon over and reduced the price! <hr width=100% size=1>

    vented loops in toilet pipes

see extract from The Code of Practise below. Read the rest at http://www.bluemoment.com/codeofpractice/5.html 5.8.2 When an opening is for the purpose of an inlet or discharge below the waterline it should be fitted with a seacock, valve or other effective means of closure which is readily...

    Motorsailing nitwits

I enjoyed Sunday mornings passage from Cowes to Hamble with just the head sail. Very strong winds and an average speed of 8 knots. Excellent, why anyone would need the engine is beyond me. Also how can you tell, the sea state made it virtually impossible to see if an engine was running. In any...

Folly Inn River Medina - Cowes

Went to the Folly on Saturday night dispite all the adverse critisisim. I have to report that we had an excellent night and the food was good. The younger and more energetic were dancing on tha tables and Danny made the night with his usual excellent performance. The Folly has been a regular of...

    The Castle - Gosport

I would have agreed with you a few months ago but recently on my last two visits the food was poor. Chips cooked in old fat, stewed veg and dirty tables. Shame! it used to be my regular when in Gosport.

I have computer - but which Chart System to buy??

I also use Seapro 2000, it's very good and I agree the support is excellent. How it compares with the others I could not say as I've not tried them. Seapro web site is http://www.euronav.co.uk/

    Flat Fenders

I bought a flat fender at the show, just thought I'd give one a try. However the wind blows it away, in a strong blow its more like a kite. Therefore, pretty useless as a fender unless someone knows how to keep it in place. However it's not entirely a waste as it does make a reasonable seat or...

    VHF GMDSS

I've just completed the upgrade course so that I can use a GMDSS radio. Four hours to learn how to press a red button and a test at the end. Good job it's not compulsory to do a course before using a video recorder, it would take the RYA weeks.

    Diesel in the bilge’s!!

Vermiculite is good for absorbing any petroleum based liquid. Nearly as good is sawdust. Make sure that water dose not saturate the vermiculite. Spread it an inch or so thick all over the wood and leave for a few days. then mix it around a bit and leave again and again and again. It may take...

    Chartering

I suggest you contact a charter company and ask for guidance. They will tell you if you need more experience or training. I recommend http://www.fairviewsailing.co.uk/ . Another site that may be of interest is www.seanine.co.uk

    Raytheon Autohelms

I've had one fitted to my Dufour 36 for 2 years. It was usless to begin with, no matter how or who set the various paramaters and also software upgrades. I was told two things 1 fit a rudder reference unit (this I have just done, it helps and has improved matters) 2 my boat is on the limit for...

    Alderney

Re: Pricey nosh places Best place to eat is the Braye Chippy. Water taxi can soon deplete the boat kitty with a crew of six going ashore each time. This can make Braye the most expensive places to stay. However I would not miss it as it is my favourite CI stops.
