This is a CAV type diesel primary filter, once very common on boats. I removed this from the launch I am refitting. Thanks again. The actual IVA test is not very expensive, but it's complicated enough to want to avoid if it isn't needed. But the circumstantial evidence points to needing it so far.

DFL1010 - Indeed, I think I know the outcome, but I'm not trying to change it, just to clarify it. I assume a homemade trailer which has passed an IVA would be acceptable to an insurance company - why not? People still build cars and have them tested and registered I assume?

Thanks Pump-Out for helping. I can't see anything there that applies to a one-off bespoke homemade trailer newly made? Type approval is a sort of class thing? Minerva - good idea about the insurer, though it's easy for them to say no if they don't really know? I doubt if the question is asked often.

My approach might be to work out how that bronze piece fits on and whether you really can remove it; then, if you can, take it off and have it machined. I'm a fan of Volvo seals, but they are fussier perhaps than you realise and don't like distortion.

Left overs from a fender sock kit. All laid flat, the small one is 20cm x 64cm and already sewn. The larger stuff is about 26cm wide. The longer length is 3.4m, the shorter one is just 0.76m and sewn one end. Stretchy polyester for larger fenders. Happy to post at cost or collect from East...

I have had one of these for years and found it really useful when anchoring. I hang it below the boom - much safer at that level than at mast-head (you'll know if you have entered an anchorage at night with other boats with masthead lights only). Turns itself on at dusk and back off at dawn...
