    Lifejacket leaking - Hanmar Automatic

I should add that It's the A1 mod. The other failure I had a couple of years back was also an A1. They are fitted to Crewsaver LJ but I don't think that's relevant. The reason I'm exercised about this is that my Spinlock Vito LJs are also fitted with the same unit. I don't believe the chances...

    Lifejacket leaking - Hanmar Automatic

Annually, before the start of each season. So approx. 12 months ago.

    Lifejacket leaking - Hanmar Automatic

I honestly don't consider this type of failure to be acceptable - twice. This LJ is stored on a hanger, in a wardrobe, dry and clean. By definition, the unit hasn't been used, and the LJ is inflated annually with a hand pump for pressure test. No damp air from blowing it up using my lungs. If it...

    Lifejacket leaking - Hanmar Automatic

Resurrecting this thread, as I have now had two firing units fail in precisely this way. In both cases, these are 'spare' lifejackets kept on board for guests or to avoid having to repack a lifejacket in a hurry should one be inflated during a passage - so they do spend most of their life in the...

    Battery saver for fridge

I know. Our standing draw is currently around 500mA - enough to worry about after about a week or so. Also on the list are some solar panels to address that issue too...

    Battery saver for fridge

I did think about doing it this way, but it means taking the fridge apart. Switching the power on and off will be easier to implement. The total current draw on both units seems to be about 7A so two of those you linked to should suffice.

    Battery saver for fridge

Actually Paul, I think I did mention the word "freezer" in the original post 😉 because it can be used as one, but we don't use it that way so the issue doesn't arise.

    Battery saver for fridge

Does anyone know of a voltage sensing unit that can detect a charging voltage and automatically turn the power supply to a fridge on, and turn it off again when the charging ceases? The current boat has two, large fridges and I'd like to defend the service batteries from drain during long...

    Attach anchor bridle to octoplait...

This is asking the lines of what I was thinking. I use soft shackles a lot, and this looks like a fair use. My concern is that during periods of low load (perhaps at the turn of the tide) the prusik could slip...

    Attach anchor bridle to octoplait...

I have a new yacht and it's required with 40m chain - no octoplait... We currently anchor using a snubbing bridle, attached to the chain with a chain hook and made fast on the forward cleats. The main reason for the bridle, aside from any requirement for snubbing, is because the chain fairlead...

    Personal Safety devices

I have both. Truthfully the McMurdo PLB is seldom with me (at night I sometime put it in my pocket) but the MOB AIS unit is in my life-jacket which is ALWAYS with me. The North Sea is a fairly populated place - one way or another and CG antenna are very high up, and very sensitive. I prefer to...

    Rusty Keel Bolts

Agreed If you search this forum for posts about rusty keel bolts, you'll find lots of (understandably) concerned folk with similar issues. I've yet to find a post whereby someone pulled their bolts and found them in a poor state. On my previous boat (1993 Beneteau) the heads looks like the...
