Actually the hydrogel silicone FR coatings work in static water as well as moving water, they feel slimy to the touch as soon as water hits them, there's an amphiphilic additive being added that aids in this mechanism but no company has solved the durability problem.
Moment of truth : the only viable market for biocide free AF is for larger ships and that's because they care a lot for the ~20% fuel savings since it saves then millions on each trip so they can justify the extra cost.
Hello guys, I've registered a vintage boat under the Polish flag and the Polish certification card has no model , HIN or engine number written on it, how would authorities know this boat is mine?
Hello, the velox primer is a plastic type, it's not an etching primer, all etching primers have the corrosive pictogram on the can and you can clearly read the acid ratio in the MSDS, I don't think there's an etching primer for SS yet.
One guy nailed it, it's the water transport that causes...
Velox fails a lot too but it's cheaper so it's easier to justify the cost, I guess.
btw plastic is better than s/s and s/s is better than bronze in terms of coating longevity underwater because bronze corrodes a lot faster than s/s
Propspeed failures are very very frequent, you can ask any diver who's not on payroll to comment on this, the reasons for the failure are not exactly transparent as it is the exact same qualified shipyard workers who apply it every time, so it is not because of poor application! It is not due...
Yes you can buy a cheap antifouling regardless of where it's made but the cheaper ones can only be legally applied on ships and not leisure boats as there is a limit on the biocide concentration and release rate.
These cheap antifoulings you're talking about are ILLEGAL and are highly toxic , you are breaking the law by using them. These can only be legally applied on large ships. You are breaking the law just by cruising in the EU region with these.

Why are you in Turkey then? Wasn't this thread about how Greek and Turkish shipyards rip off foreigners by subcontracting to third parties? Oh these shipyards have their own tricks for ripping off owners, they don't...
I expected more from Hempel but propspeed comes off in about a year as well. Aminated fatty acids don't work very well as an adhesion promoter after all huh? :nonchalance:
Anyway thanks for letting us know about the silic one coating.
I'm interested in the preparation required for the application of silic one on propellers , they use an epoxy primer instead of an etching primer like other silicone coatings for propellers, they say that brass need an etching primer. Anyway, with most silicone coatings you can just overcoat...
It's actually a urethane modified silicone, if it's not stratifying you should be able to overcoat it with the same material but it won't accept regular paints anymore.
