    Interior lights

Navigation Lights You can also paint these with a transparent red and green and have them as back up navigation lights. Not bad for a quid! You can't beat a Coleman lamp for lighting and saving electricity especially nice in the cockpit when you're alone at night.

    Weather info on passage.

Personally, I'm using the prayer set up for receiving weather at sea. It consists of a folded blanket and the God of my choosing (a small Ganesh flashing statue that Indian lorry drivers use for protection) placed on the steps of the companionway. Extremely cheap and far more reliable than...

Welcome to the Jester Challenge forum

I've ordered the book 'The Mind Of The Sailor'. There are a few cheap copies available on Abebooks and Alibris if anyone else is interested. I'll take some kind of drogue. I don't relish the idea of ending up lying abeam to huge waves. Especially at night. That was happening down near Brittany...

Welcome to the Jester Challenge forum

That's great John, thanks. I forked out for a Hydrovane which is a quality piece of kit and only time I seen them break is in marina collisions. I have tools and some spares. I was thinking more in terms of some sort of drogue thingy in case of bad weather to sea anchor the boat? I have a GPS...

Welcome to the Jester Challenge forum

Thanks for your reply. What happened to those that start and don't finish? Do they just turn tail and head back to Plymouth or do they get abducted by aliens? I imagine there's a point of no return where you might as well try and keep going as head back to Plymouth or to Spain if things go...

Welcome to the Jester Challenge forum

I bet the jester's not joking. I'm thinking of giving this a go. I'm wondering how many boats take part? Roughly how long does it take to get to the Azores? I've done a fair bit of single handed sailing but never more than four days alone before touching shore. What happens if you can't hack...
