    how many fenders?

Tie them on to the lower of the two guard rails with the ends just clear of the water for most pontoons, then if you need to alter them for rafting or the marina have told you port side to and it's starboard side to, all you do is leave them tied on but wind over the the top guard rail when they...

    how many fenders?

Friend had a 42foot Jeneteau and they numbered the fenders and had a sheet saying where each should be placed on the boat. She took some home and said she wondered if they had too many when she looked at it and it was 22A.

    how many fenders?

At least 10 of reasonable size, I near bows, 1 near stern and 3 spread along midships bulge per side. Any more is a bonus.

    Heaters

They didn't take their wives sailing with them. Not just showers - hot showers.

Unknown prop noise help! beneteau 427

If the rope cutter has been fitted close to the cutlass bearing then you can get a sort of rumbling noise. It needs to leave a decent water gap and be close to the prop.

This is on the Hamble and is the only one I've found, I wonder if coincidentally it's almost opposite RYA HQ?

Buoy identification - for the experts

At end of year I used to ask what displays orange flashing lights and continuous short blasts on siren. Isle of Wight ferry on a lumpy day when all car alarms set off.

Buoy identification - for the experts

I used to tell students to deconstruct lights on a ship. They look horribly confusing at first but take away the main nav lights red, green, white steaming (2 if big) then what's left is likely telling you what it is doing. But be careful, I was doing day skipper practical (student) and two...

    Anchor in front garden

Better than 60m anchor chain in garage together with an old genoa that no-one seemed to want and a fair bit of netting in the garden although that's to keep the bloody pigeons off the produce.

    Heaters

I had an eberspacher hydronic and the downside is it took about 30 minutes to get all the water hot enough to feel warmth in the boat and the matrix fans - necessary for pushing air over the matrices also take power. The rig was set up so that the engine could also provide hot water. The ideal...

    Poor coastguard.

Dunno why but it reminds of the Admiral's inspection of one of HM warships and in his wander round he came across the deck sentry who admitted being there for MOB, the Admiral asked what he would do in the event one of his fellow sailors went over the side and the matelot rattled off his actions...

Topsail Insurance... oh so you want us back? Take a hike.

I insured with Haven-Knox and was then approached by a broker who offered me the same cover for less cost, which I accepted. Turned out I was still insured with Haven-Knox, never could understand how that worked.
