    Entry level cuddly cruiser

Think he is talking about power boats not yachts.

Which are the favoured boat sales sites at the moment.

Last boat I sold was via Apollo Duck via a free advert I think. Is it still popular? Do people use Boats & Outboards? Not really viable for me to use a broker as it’s a small boat and likely to be worth less that £10k. Any other sites I should look at. Not keen on eBay or Gumtree. Thank you.

    Dressing for Dinner

Bloody nouveau riche type. One does not have an Under Butler, one has a Valet. And no Butler Worth his salt would allow a Sommelier in the house, let alone anywhere near the Master’s Claret. Here is the Mess Webley and a decent Malt...

    Boats you've owned?

Wow. Amazed how many boats some people have owned! My list is pretty pathetic in contrast. Topper Swift 18 Hunter Horizon 21 ComPac 23D Must admit the way Americans design a boat just seems to suit me. So much so I’m now hunting for a bigger ComPac or a Dana 24. Very rare in Europe though sadly.

Breathables, am I the only one?

I have an old XM non breathable set that must be 25 years old. I just about still fit in them! But they are totally waterproof. Sweat rolls off me though. They get worm possibly once a year if I’m in very wet conditions. My “go to” breathables are Gill OS2. Fair price and decent quality. I...

Classic GRP Yachts; this is mine, where is yours?

She is a Com Pac 23, an American designed and built boat. I don’t know if there is another 23 in the UK but I think there are a few 16s and 19s. They are very common across the pond but mine is a rare inboard diesel one (Yanmar) with additional teal trim etc.

    Similarities,boats and model railways!

And everything that is model railway “specific” has a significantly increased price. A model railway shop is comparable to a Chandlery!

Hunter owners' association...worth £15 per annum?

It’s only £15. I joined a few years ago when I bought a Hunter Horizon 21. It was missing an anchor locker “lid”. One of the members (rudely I have forgotten his name!) measured his up and sent me an excellent dimensioned drawing of said lid. I’d join my new yacht’s Association if they had one...

This is mine. I like to think she has a classic look to her.

Hunter Medina vs Swift 18 et al

There’s not a lot of under bunk storage, just small cubby holes if I remember correctly. So no real option to store heavy items forward. I never sailed it with more than two people on board so don’t know if the cockpit floods. It drains into the outboard well.

Hunter Medina vs Swift 18 et al

I think the weight aft issue was the reasoning behind the Swift 20.

Hunter Medina vs Swift 18 et al

In a Force 5 I’d have one reef in and probably two. The Swift is best sailed flat. And anyway it’s no real fun to sail on your beam ends for hours. Watch out for weight in the rear. A heavy 5hp 4 stroke can seriously affect performance and is not easy to stow if you took it out of the well...

Hunter Medina vs Swift 18 et al

The only issue with the Swift, which is impossible to resolve, is the keel box intrusion into the cabin. It did in the end annoy me so much I sold the Swift. That’s why many years later I bought a bilge keel Hunter Horizon 21. That has its own issues for me, principally draft. So that was sold...

Hunter Medina vs Swift 18 et al

I had a gennaker which came with the boat but I think I only used it twice. I like my sailing to be relaxed! Even with the standard sail plan the Swift was good in light airs.
