It is indeed a CAV unit. I think I probably have it sussed but with a bit of luck sombody a bit wiser will bumble along and give me a bit of confidence before I have to use it and take my chances. I will try on Monday and see if I can have a word with a car sparks...
Ive bought a new regulator and the connections are marked a bit different from the original. Can anyone help figure out whats what.
The original had connections
L -ve CR Exc F +
New one has connections
-ve A WL F HI+ MED+ LO+

Im trying to source a replacement regulator, for the alternator one one of my engines.
The regulator is external to the alternator and mounted on the bulkhead. Manufactured by Femsatronic.
The alternator is a 24v CAV unit, on a 6 cylinder Gardner engine of circa 1965.
Running out of places to...
Consider doing it the traditional way with white lead paste and linseed oil putty. Its as good as anything Sika whatsit do and a fraction of the cost.
About £35 for 3 kilos paste and a tenner for 3kilos putty. Add a drop of grease when mixed up.

We do have a steading sail and often use it. It does help a bit but we are looking for something a bit better.

But Im mostly interested with stability, whilst underway. That said, whats this gyro thing...... I mean I know what a gyro is, but whats it to do with stability whilst at anchor?
We do have a decent generator....About 4 kva with an ability tom start high inductive loads.
