I grew up spending most of my holidays on the west coast of Scotland so it's not surprising that I graduated towards sailing by the time I was in my teens. This also led me into becoming marine biologist and this allowed me to combine by love of sailing and the sea with the ability to actually earn a living. As part of my work, I've sailed in Scotland, Newfoundland/Labrador and in the northern Bahamas (where I lived off and on for the latter part of the 1990s and even owned an old Northstar for a few years that I kept in Marsh Harbour in the Abacos). Now land-locked in Scotland (hopefully only temporarily – but it’s been about five years now since I last spent a reasonable amount of time at sea), a large part of my free time is spent writing fiction that combines a love of post-apocalyptic survival stories and life at sea (odd combination I know!).
