    3ym30 overheating

Hi guys. My engine overheated recently due to a water pump belt breaking. When I checked the impellor it too had disintegrated. I don`t know which happened first. I replaced both the belt and the impellor and removed the debris from the impellor from the outlet hose to the heat exchanger. I...

    exhaust outlet issue

I have installed a second hand 2 cylinder Renault kubota engine in my boat and the exhaust elbow is pointed down at 45 degrees. The existing stainless water lock box is now higher than the exhaust by approx 50 mm. The entry into the box is approx 150mm from the bottom of the box. What would be...

    Replacing a lift pump

Hi all, The lift pump in my 1gm Yanmar is not working as well as it should and needs replacing. Are refurb kits no longer available? Is there anything to be aware of when removing the old or fitting the new. Thanks in advance

    Sail slides

Hi all, I have just bought a second hand fully battoned mainsail but the sail slides are falling out of the mast groove. A search through my box of sailing things which you should never throw out unearthed a slide which fits. It is the A107 supplied by Banbridge but they seem to sell to the...

    New skin fitting

Hi guys thanks for all the help so far. Just a little bit of background on the boat. It is a Canadian built Sirius 28 built around the early eighties and was brought over to Ireland in the late eighties by a guy who was coming back to live. It was lying unused for a few years until I bought it...

    New skin fitting

The waste can only be disposed of via a discharge pump in a marina. It is fully below sea level. The only way to access the interior is through a large fibreglass hatch which is sealed with a sikaflex type sealant by the previous owner . This is also screwed down. It is however impossible to...

    New skin fitting

The toilet in question is the RM 69 which discharges directly into the holding tank which is factory moulded in under one of the bunks. Essentially they have taken one of the storage compartments and made it into a holding tank. Thanks for the replies so far.

    New skin fitting

My new to me boat is fitted with a holding tank but no way of pumping waste overboard when offshore. I therefore want to fit a new skin fitting with a diverter valve. What diameter skin fitting is recommended and also which valve type would the forum recommend. Thanks

    New Spray Hood

Jonny at Boatcovers.ie made me up a new one earlier this season and I'm delighted with it. He's based in Co Down but traveled the 150 miles first to measure up, fit the frame and make the pattern and the second time for final fitting. nothing was too much trouble and he was very helpful with the...

    Engine problem

Thanks for all the advice so far. the primary filter only has a couple of hours on it and seems spotless as does the separator. This is a boat which is used exclusively for racing and the engine only has 250 hrs all in fresh water. The engine is very well minded and serviced annually regardless...

    Engine problem

Plenty of fuel in the tank. This started last year but someone suggested fitting the priming bulb from an outboard tank and this seemed to work but today this was fully depressed so was useless. Could be air or fuel starvation. The engine never stopped but it was fairly nerve wracking all the same.

    Engine problem

Motoring home today into a 40-45 knt wind after an abandoned race the revs on the volvo 2020 on our Elan 31 started to rise and fall alarmingly. With the throttle set at 2000 revs the engine would die down to 500 revs and then rise again. This happened constantly. Any ideas as to what may have...
