My cockpit drains below the waterline-any thoughts?

Are you sure about that? On my Atlanta Viking 8.5, the cockpit sole is only about 2 or 3 inches max above the water line. It's about 12 inches above the hull. When the boat heels, the lower side of the cockpit fills with water. This is despite the drains being crossed over. The answer is to...

Help, new some advice on a water trap.

I have this model of water trap on my boat. I remember when I took it apart, there were four very small stainless steel plates which engage in the two extra retaining grooves to stop the spigots pulling out. For safety reasons these are very important, I'm surprised that the manual doesn't...

    Seafarer Mark III blown capacitor

Unfortunately, there is no more information about the circuit. But I have a copy of the "Installation and operating instructions" which I could scan and post here, if it's of any use. John

    Liquid level indicator

My fuel gauge consists of a row of 5 miniature reed switches attached to a piece of plastic strip and pushed into the top of a vertical tube in my fuel tank. The tube is sealed closed at the bottom. Around the tube is a short length of loose fitting tube with two 35mm film canisters (floats)...

    Trailer sailor maximum widtb

Gov.uk site shows the maximum size for a trailer as 2.55M wide x 7M long. But a boat isn't a Trailer! it's a load on that trailer. As long as it is clearly marked, a load may overhang the sides by 305mm up to a max width of 2.9M. And overhang at the rear by 3.05M Giving an overall max of...

Hose size for oil extraction from 3GM30F

On my 2GM20F the dipstick hole is 10mm diameter. I'll be very surprised if the 3GM30F is different. The 10mm tube supplied with the Pela fits perfectly. The very small metal tube supplied with the Pela takes for ever.

    Fuel transfer at sea ?

That link is to the same type of pump that I used in my set up. In my first attemps I tried using it to pump diesel, but it was very messy, as fuel seemed to come out everywhere. In my second attempt only air goes through the pump into the top of the can. The outlet pipe which comes up from the...

    Fuel transfer at sea ?

That is exactly what I made. It is important to have a tap on the outlet as it's impossible to dump the pressure quickly enough to stop it overflowing.

    Does your GPS get confused?

My Garmin GPS 60 has made mistakes in the past. I was once sailing at about 4knts a few miles off the Great Orme in North Wales, when my Gps was showing my track at 2300Knts over the Balearic's. A few moments later it showed me doing 140knts a hundred miles off the west coast of Ireland...

    Coolant/Anodes in a 2GM20F

There should be three drains on the starboard side of the 2GM20F. The one on the aft end of the heat exchanger drains the sea water from it. The 2nd one underneath the heat exchanger drains fresh water from it. And the 3rd one on the cylinder block, close to the 2nd drain, drains fresh water...

taylors diesel heater installation - sadler 32?

I have a Taylors diesel heater on my 28 ft yacht. I think it's excellent for use on a mooring or in harbour. It requires a little care to preheat it with meths and get it going. I've tried to use it while sailing but down draughts off the sails upset it a bit too much. I converted mine to take...

Anyone else built their own boat?

I still have my brochure too. :) Was this the one you built. I drove down to Bungay from Altrincham to pick up the kit. Middle of winter, no heater in the van. All part of the adventure! John.

Anyone else built their own boat?

In about 1968/69, at the grand old age of 21. My appetite for sailing whetted by a couple of holidays on the Norfolk Broards. I decided I'd like a boat of my own. But everything I saw was way out of my price range. The only way I could see of achieving my ambition was to build one in my back...
