Black cat software on an iPad and a small HF receiver will get you synoptic charts which is all I need. After all, once offshore there isn't anything you can do with more detailed wind info.

I use a Garmin in reach for exactly your purpose and it works perfectly. I would buy the mini if I was buying it now. For what you want you can ignore the starlink posts.

yes two or a splitter. I was amazed that it doesn't have a built in splitter! Luckily I realised before I bought one and got a standalone AIS with built in splitter for much cheaper.
