First Lundy trip basics - getting ashore

Thanks PCUK. Yes brain engaged about an hour after posting for help. I’m ordering up some fancy SUPROD wheels to help - although they add even more weight to the dinghy. I think it’s worth the trade off, as we have lifting tackle and halyards to manage the weight issue for launch & recovery.(y)

First Lundy trip basics - getting ashore

Technically it’s my second visit, but first time ashore. The first was bringing our Sigma 362 up from Plymouth when we anchored in the rocky bay near the Rattles for a rest and to dodge the foul tide. Happy with anchoring off in Landing Bay subject to conditions, rather than taking an unknown...

    Autopilot installer in BC

Unfortunately not. Was talking with a major south coast installer about coming up to do it, with me taking the travel & hotel costs. However, it appears they only really want to take on a simple bolt ram to conveniently placed bulkhead installation. If it was that easy, I’d do it myself...

    Autopilot installer in BC

Need to get a decent below-deck autopilot installed on or 36 footer sail boat to interface with our shiny new B&G plotter & instruments. Struggling to find an installer in the Portishead area. Any recommendations? Would prefer a proper approved installer but if need be I'm happy to handle the...

    Diesel Engineer - Bristol

Thanks. Pretty sure we're not overheating. Latest bout of issues was this weekend - had to move the boat in the harbour. Freezing cold. Only ran it for 5-10 minutes at low revs - decent water flow in the exhaust. I don't think its air, although might be wrong. When (not if) we fit the CAV...

    Diesel Engineer - Bristol

Hi, Looking for a recommendation for a diesel engineer to work in Bristol. Our smoky old 28hp 1988 Volvo 2003 inboard has started stopping, and to put it simply we’d like some help from an engineer to stop it stopping. Did 30-40hrs of motor-sailing this summer up/down the channel and it...

Broken Bravo BST 12 HP or BST 800 pumps

Need some spares for my BST12 HP which has fractured spindles on the HP side, but otherwise works fine. BST 12 HP, or BST 800 which is mostly compatible. These units are notoriously unreliable so hopefully there are a few broken ones around that I can recycle to keep mine going. Let me know...

First time advice for sailing into Cardiff Bay

Thanks all. Left Portishead near HW-1 punched tide for a bit and made it into Cardiff yesterday lunchtime with no drama just after HW+2. Saw around 3m under the keel at the tightest bit. To be honest I’d probably do the same again on big springs. Planning to be a little more adventurous on...

First time advice for sailing into Cardiff Bay

Thanks, had noted E going stream at Portishead which I'll hit for the first hour or so, and if it were neaps I'd agree with you wholeheartedly - leave later do it the easy way. Unfortunately Friday morning is very springy so there won't be oodles of water in Cardiff near low water. With the...

First time advice for sailing into Cardiff Bay

Hi, Planning to sail over from Bristol to Cardiff (via Portishead) later this week. I’m fairly experienced but haven’t done any real Bristol Channel sailing since sailing our Sigma 362 back and forth from Plymouth to Bristol a few years back. Cardiff is a new one for us. Bit worried about...

Shelter from E to S winds in Milford Haven

Thanks, the anchorage NW of South Hook is where we tucked in the other day when the wind picked up from the East. Pretty little spot with a small red sandy beach to the NW. I think given the wind has dropped right off here just now we'll go take another look at Dale, and fallback to Kilroom if...
