I am a 25-year old young man originally from Sardinia, Italy, and have been living and working in Edinburgh, Scotland, since 2012.

I have always had an insatiable desire to be near the sea. My keen interest in marine activities began as early as I can remember; I have been snorkeling, spearfishing and scuba diving since my teens, having undertaken by first scuba diving course in 2007 and become a member of FIPSAS (Italian federation for sports fishing and underwater activities). I was then awarded the three star CMAS diver certificate (equivalent to PADI Dive-master) in 2011, and in September 2014 I completed the PADI dry-suit speciality course, enabling me to dive also in cold water.

My sailing experience began in September 2012, when I undertook a two-week sailing course at the Glénans center in Bonifacio, Corsica. The first week was shore-based, involving the basic theory of sailing, rigging, chart and rope work, navigation rules and symbology; as well as daily practical sessions using a keelboat out of the bay practicing tacking, gybing, man overboard and sails trimming. During the second week we cruised, aboard a 33-foot sailing boat, from the South of Corsica to the Archipelago of La Maddalena in the North Eastern part of Sardinia and back; deepening my understanding of all the aspects of the first week of the course, as well as providing me with a great deal of mooring training and four hours of nighttime navigation. This covered approximately 100 nautical miles, giving me a true opportunity to put into practice all the skills gained throughout the course.

Since May 2014 I have also been a member of the RYA Cramond Boat Club in Edinburgh, which often organizes short sailing races where I participated as a crewmember. At the beginning of August I gained the VHF Short Range Certificate, and a month later attended the Sailing Day Skipper Practical (tidal), at 1st Scot Sail in Largs, Scotland. I hope to attain the Power Boat level 2 before the end of October, following which I intend to undertake the Sea Survival and Yacht-master theory courses.

In addition to my interest in marine activities, I have been in continuous employment since the age of 16. After completion of my high school certificate, I worked initially for four years as a handyman, largely specializing in carpentry and bricklaying in my native Sardinia. Due to my intense desire to undertake further training in marine activities, I decided to move to Edinburgh in 2012 to pursue further training opportunities in sailing and diving. Since moving to Scotland, in addition to undertaking a number of marine courses as described above, I have also been employed full-time in the catering industry, initially as a kitchen assistant, and since December 2013 have been promoted in a small food supply company to the position of driver and warehouseman, where I am in charge of logistics for the warehouse and deliveries.

Although not directly relevant to sailing, these positions have provided me with extensive transferrable organizational skills, which I believe would be highly useful in a position as a skipper. I am also fluent in English and Spanish, as well as Italian.

As my ultimate goal is to pursue a career as a skipper, I would be very grateful if you could contact me regarding any relevant positions you may have available where I might be able to gain more sailing experience.
