Disabling a jam cleat
Not usual to have anything at the top of the mast, for this reason. Remove it.

Trudesign - anyone had any problems?
I can't see swelling wood splitting them. They are way stronger than that. Sounds like someone who doesn't understand composite materials making up a wives tale to me.
